Robert Lea, Age 89 of Highlands Ranch, Colorado passed away June 18, 2018 at Hallmark Care Center due to complications of pneumonia. he was born August 24, 1928 in Chicago, Illinois to Olivia and Albert Lea. Bob is survived by his loving wife, Ilena of 42 years; his sons, Craig and Kevin by an earlier marriage; from them - two grandsons, Nathanel and Lowell, and a Granddaughter Caryl. His Grandchildren also gave Bob seven surviving great grandchildren, and one great, great granddaughter. Bob is also survived by Ilena's 4 children; 4 grandchildren; and one great grandson. Bob graduated from the University of Wisconsin (Milwaukee) with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He was employed at Martin Marietta for a number of years and in the late 60's worked on the Mission to Mars Project. His work resulted in NASA concluding that a mission to Mars was not yet technically feasible and awaited further breakthroughs. He served his community as a member of the neighborhood Home Owner's Association in the Village at the Knolls. While living there he served as president several different times. He was an active member of the Littleton Retired Men's club. Bob lived and loved playing bridge. he was a member of many bridge groups. he also wrote and published a book in July of 1965 titled ""Bridge is Easy With the Lea System."" He and Paul Morehead were duplicate bridge partners and won many trophies for Martin Marietta. Bob enjoyed playing tennis, golfing, cross country skiing and spending time traveling here and abroad with his wife, Ilena. he also loved to dance and cut a pretty good rug! A Memorial Service will be held Tuesday, June 26, 2018 at 10:30 in the morning at Horan & McConaty which is located at 5303 E. County Line Road, Centennial, Colorado. A reception will follow at noon in the Gleneagles Village Club House in Highlands Ranch (inside the gate) on Canongate Lane. Donations in Bob's honor may be sent to a charity that is/was special to you and your loved one. Bob was dearly loved by all who knew him and will be greatly missed.
