Robert Dennis Maddock

Bob passed away peacefully at home on January 24, 2012 surrounded by his family. He was born on May 25, 1924 in Denver, Colorado to Dennis and Marie Maddock. He was raised in Denver and attended Holy Family High School. Bob is preceded in death by his parents; his brother, William Maddock; and his two sisters, Betty Geier and Margaret Davies Ehlers. He is survived by his wife of 65 years Mary Anne; and his four children, Richard (Janet) Maddock, Janet (Eric) Stickland, Donald (Angela) Maddock and Stephen (Kimberly) Maddock. He is also survived by 9 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

A WWII veteran, Bob served in the U.S. Army as a landing craft coxswain, seeing action in the south pacific theater on New Guinea, Luzon and Leyte Gulf in the Philippines, receiving numerous ribbons and medals. After returning from the war, he and Mary Anne were married on February 23, 1946. Bob then joined the Denver Police Department serving 25 years before retiring in 1977. In 2011, Bob traveled to Washington DC as a member of Colorado’s Honor Flight, saluting veterans of WWII.

Bob was involved in the Red Dale camping organization, loving to camp and traveling to new destination to see the sights. He was an avid golfer who got lucky with 4 holes-in-one. He also loved to bowl, being involved in many leagues over the years. Bob loved following the local sports scene; he was especially fond of the Colorado Rockies and the Denver Broncos. He loved spending time with his family and was involved in many family activities over the years and loved going on cruise with his wife. Bob and Mary Anne enjoyed weekly trips to Blackhawk and Central City where they were well-known and loved. He was active in the Prairie Greens community, calling bingo and being involved with the homeowners group. Bob was loved and respected by all who knew him, especially his family who he loved.

Visitation is scheduled for Saturday, January 28, 2012 from 2pm to 4pm at Horan & McConaty at 9998 Grant Street, Thornton, Colorado. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, January 31, 2012 at 11am at St. Theresa Catholic Church in Frederick, Colorado. Burial will be held at a later date at Fort Logan National Cemetery with full military honors.
