Robert H. Masonheimer, Lt. Colonel, United States Air Force (Retired).
Robert H. Masonheimer has passed away at the age of 103 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Bob made the U.S. Air Force his career for 24 years and joined the USAAF shortly after the attack on Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. He retired as a Command Pilot and flew 30 combat missions in the South Pacific during World War ll, earning two Distinguished Flying Crosses, four Air Medals and many other military decorations and awards. He flew over 26 different types of aircraft during his career in the USAF, but his favorite aircraft was the B-24 Liberator, which is what he primarily flew in combat during WWIL. After retiring from the USAF, he then flew DC-8's and DC-10's for 15 years with United Airlines, retiring as a Senior Flight Operations Instructor.
Bob's wife of 73 years preceded him in death several years ago. He is survived by his son Chet Masonheimer, and his daughter-in-law Lorraine Masonheimer, and many family members in California. He was interred next to his wife Maxine Masonheimer at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver, Colorado.
There will be no service or memorial as his family honored his wishes to be quietly interred.
