Robert S. Mickey

Robert Smith Mickey, Jr., was born November 14, 1920 to Laura Andregg and Robert Smith Mickey, Sr. in Kalamazoo, Michigan. He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Fred, sister Mary and wife Lois. He grew up in Kalamazoo and enjoyed ice skating on the lakes in southern Michigan. He went to high school with Lois E. Crossley and played clarinet in the Central High School Band where he was the concertmaster. They both played clarinet in high school and in college. He was first clarinet in the Kalamazoo Symphony, Lois was second. He got an undergraduate degree in economics at Western Michigan University and went on to get a Masters in Economics at the University of Michigan after his military service. He served our country in the Army/Air Corps during WWII and was stationed in Newfoundland. Before he finished his military service he went to Kalamazoo and asked the love of his life, Lois, to marry him. They were married April, 1945. They had three children – Thomas, Nancy and Pat. He was always active in church often serving as treasurer. He accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at age 45 during a work place bible study. He sang in the choir (with Lois directing). He was active in Boy Scouts, enjoyed golf, ice skating, bridge and bible study. He is survived by his children Thomas (Kathleen) Mickey, Nancy (Larry) Buege, and Patricia (Steven) Scheid, his grandchildren Kelli, Dave, Logan, Holly, Laura, Scott, Carrie and his great-grandchildren Lily, Levi, Isaac, Rory, Anika, Luke, Sam, Marshall, Elena, Elliott, Evan and Finley. He was a CPA and a member of the American Institute of CPAs where he served on the Board of Standards. He was also a member of the Michigan Association of CPAs. He traveled extensively for business and pleasure. After his trip to Israel with Lois, he took great pride in saying he was baptized in the Jordan River. He wanted to be remembered as a faithful husband, loving father and grandfather, and a committed Christian. He will be missed by all. Interment next to Lois, his wife of 57 years, at Mt. Ever Rest Memorial Park, Kalamazoo, Michigan.
