July 7, 1928 — August 16, 2016

Robert ""Bob"" Eugene Nickerson was born July 7, 1928, in Denver, CO., to Ezekiel and Isabella Nickerson. He is survived by his wife of almost sixty-three years, Anne Petersen Nickerson, three children and their spouses, Lynne (Jeff) Bost, Laura (Jose) Torres-Reyes, and Robert Jerome Nickerson. Bob was the youngest of six siblings. He was preceded in death by his parents and five siblings. Bob was very young when he lost his parents. He lived with and became a member of the family of Vassar Biffle when he was twelve. He became life long friends with her son, Jerome Biffle. He was a proud graduate of Manual High School, making friendships that lasted the rest of his life. He served two years in the U.S. Army, rising to the rank of Sergeant and serving as a Military Policeman (MP). He was a fireman for twenty-five years with the Denver Fire Department, being the first Black fireman to serve in an integrated fire station. He was a master plumber, establishing and operating Nickerson Plumbing Co. for over 40 years until he began his long journey with Alzheimer's. Bob was a loving husband and father, enjoying his family at events on both the East and West coasts, most recently attending the retirement of his daughter from the Air Force in June, 2016. His family has described him as being a ""very special uncle who spoke volumes with his quiet demeanor"" and ""with the happiest spirit that even his illness did not change."" He was truly loved by and enjoyed his family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, www.alz.org, or Denver Hospice, www.thedenverhospice.org.
