Oehler, Robert Louis 1920 ~ 2015 Robert Louis Oehler passed away, peacefully, in his home, Saturday morning, October 17, 2015. Robert was born in Ryan Iowa, March 13, 1920 to Paul and Helen Oehler. Robert earned a degree at Loras College for Civil Engineering before joining the Army Air Core in the summer of 1944. Assigned to the 19th Bombardment, Robert served on a B-29 as remote control turret mechanic gunner (580). He participated in the GO 33 WD 45 Air Offensive Japan and Western Pacific. Robert was awarded the American Theater Ribbon, APT Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal and Victory Ribbon. He was honorably discharged, March of 1946. Robert married Barbara Jean Kirkman, September 10, 1949 in Denver Colorado. Soon after, they moved to Cheyenne, Wyoming and started a family. In 1957, Robert and Barbara moved back to Denver. Robert worked at Thompson Pipe and Steel from 1948 until he retired in 1985. Unwilling to retire completely, Robert went on to work for Martin Marietta and Strom Engineering until the mid 1990's. Robert was known for his disarming charm, razor sharp intellect and ambushing wit. Those that knew him praise his tireless loyalty to his family and friends. Robert's love of fishing found him traveling across the Rocky Mountains, angling in the crystal waters of the beautiful state he cherished. After 63 years of devoted marriage, Barbara passed away in 2012. Robert is survived by his five children: Deborah, Kevin, Judith (David), James (Janet), and Gregory (Andrea), as well as six grandchildren and six great grand children. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 26, 2015 at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, 1985 Miller St., Lakewood, Colorado 80215.
