Robert M. Pew

April 11, 1932 — July 10, 2012

Robert Pew was born in Cedar Rapids Iowa, April 11, 1932. At age six Robert moved with his family to Los Angeles, where he attended Saint Gregory's Elementary School and Loyola High School. He graduated from Loyola University in 1954 with a B.S. in Political Science and Georgetown University in 1962 with a M.A. in Soviet Studies. He also completed Russian Language School at Syracuse University in 1956. After completing his ROTC training he joined the Air Force in 1955, beginning a 22-year career in the military with Air Force Intelligence. His military career fostered a lifetime love of traveling. He moved from Southern California to the East Coast, to Japan, and then to Washington DC. After a seven year stint in Germany he moved back to the United States for several years in Colorado Springs before retiring from the Air force in 1977 with a rank of Lieutenant Colonel. Never one to dilly dally long, he went back to school and received a second master's degree in Operations Research from Cal State University Hayward in 1980. He thus began his consulting career as a Soviet Military Analyst. His love of Colorado brought him to Denver to practice his trade, where he continued to travel for both business and pleasure. Over the next 20 years he would make several trips to Russia, Asia and Europe. He is survived by three sisters, Jean Tyack, Mary Jean Pew and Sheila Albert; five children, Terry Pew, Mary McIver, Lili Duncan, Michael Pew and Tina Stout; seven Grandchildren; and his life partner Kitty Kolody. A Visitation will be held Monday, July 16, 2012 from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M., at Horan & McConaty, 5303 East County Line Road (one block to the west of South Holly Street), in Centennial, Colorado 80122. A Funeral Mass will be held Tuesday, July 17, 2012, 10:00 A.M., at All Souls Catholic Church, 4950 South Logan Street, in Englewood, Colorado 80113.
