Robert Salas was born on March 15, 1928 in Tobe, Colorado to Pablita and Fermin Salas. Robert died unexpectedly on August 16, 2013 with his family at his side. Robert spent most of his childhood and teen years growing up on a ranch in Kim Colorado. On August 26, 1951 Robert married Mary Fuentez. They have three children. Robert is survived by Mary, his wife of 63 years; one brother Santiago (Emily) Salas; three children, Isabel Salcido, Richard (Sunny) Salas and Veronica (Steve) Skoranski; seven grandchildren, Jason Garcia, Crystal Salcido, Susanna (Joshua) Fabrizio, Robert Salas, Matthew, Adam and Emily Skoranski. Robert also has nine great grandchildren, four step great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Robert is preceded in death by his parents, sisters Corrine Marquez, and Carmen McVickers, and brothers Fermin Salas Jr. and Paul Salas. Robert was a welder by trade and was regarded as one of the more highly talented welders in the State. He was one of a handful of welders who were successful in passing the Colorado State welding test with the first attempt. Robert held various supervisory positions within this industry until his retirement. As a young man Robert was very interested in cars. His favorite car was a red 1964 Plymouth Fury. Robert enjoyed being in the mountains of Colorado, fishing, camping and visiting various sites in the State. He also enjoyed traveling with extended trips to Canada and Mexico. After retirement Robert developed a great passion for furniture building and became a very talented woodworker, building everything from small wooden toys to kitchen cabinets. Robert also developed an interest in painting. His paintings included various mountain scenes many of which are owned by his children and grandchildren. He especially enjoyed besting his children in Gin Rummy. Robert had numerous other hobbies and interests. Robert enjoyed a variety of music. His primary musical interest was Mexican artists, mariachi bands and dynamic guitar players. Robert played the guitar and enjoyed playing with friends and family. His favorite Mexican singer is Marco Antonio Solis. His greatest joy was the time he spent with his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He often mentioned that he wanted to live long enough to watch his grandchildren become adults. His wish was granted. He now enjoys the fruits of heaven and the love, respect and admiration of those of us left behind. He will be missed dearly by his family and friends. Rosary for Robert Salas will be held Thursday August 22, 2013 at Horan & McConaty located at 7577 West 80th Avenue, Arvada, Colorado 80003. Viewing will be from 6pm-7pm with the rosary beginning at 7pm. The Funeral Service will be held on Friday August 23, 2013 beginning at 10:30 am at Holy Trinity Catholic Church located at 7579 Federal Boulevard, Westminster. The Reception will be held at the church immediately following the Service. The Interment will be held at Fairview Cemetery located at 102 Telluride Street, Brighton, C0, 80601 following the Reception. There will be an escort provided to the cemetery.
