Robert Jerome Scott

November 21, 1940 — April 20, 2020

Robert ""Bob"" Jerome Scott, 79, passed away peacefully and surrounded by his family in his home in Highlands Ranch on April 20th. For the past seven months, Bob was fighting a valiant battle with a ""formidable enemy,"" acute myeloid leukemia.

Born on November 21, 1940 in Milwaukee, WI to Marie McGrath and Otto Scott, Bob is survived by his beloved wife of forty years, Lila Scott, and his four children, Katie Scott, Wendy Barker and Noah Scott of Colorado, and David (Catherine) Scott of California. His family also includes four grandchildren: Trista and Jared Lick, and Huntley and Ginny Barker. Bob is also survived by his two brothers Roger (Mary) Scott of Texas and Kevin (Kathy) Scott of Tennessee, and his extended family.

His good nature was the glue that kept the family together. He was the one to call for help or for sharing those quiet moments at get togethers. Bob had a strong connection to Lila's Hawaiian “ohana” and considered his home an extension of the Aloha Spirit here in Colorado. He took full advantage of his retirement by enjoying his yard, his glass of scotch and sunsets on the deck. Bob loved nature, close friendships and the outdoors. He was an avid skier and hoped to ski until he was eighty. He came very close.

Bob served the public with positions in both California and Colorado state governments. As Executive Director of the Colorado Public Employees Retirement Association (PERA), he secured the healthcare and retirement benefits for countless Colorado teachers and other public employees. He brought an unmatched level of dignity and dedication to his work throughout his career. His measured and patient leadership during times of change and crisis were admired and respected by his associates, employees and constituents.

A celebration of his life is tentatively planned to coincide with his eightieth birthday this November 2020. In the meantime, the family would encourage you to sign the guestbook and share your favorite memories of Bob. The guest book is available on the Horan & McConaty website https://horancares.com/obits/robert-jerome-scott/
