Robert James Smith, of Edwards, Colorado. Bob was born on January 10, 1927 in Detroit, Michigan and passed away on December 11, 2011 in Denver, Colorado. Bob is survived by his wife Shirley; three sons Brian (June), Brad (Barbara) and Scott (Debbie); grandchildren Ryan, Brent, Matt, Michael, Nathan, Annamaria, Nelson, Nolan and Hayden. He is preced in death by his brother Roger Smith, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Bob served in the Navy from 1945-1946 and attended the University of Michigan from 1946-1950. He married Shirley, his bride of 61 years, on September 30, 1950. He worked for J. Walter Thompson for 25 years. Bob moved his family from Farmington Hills to Harbor Springs, Michigan in 1974. After moving to Harbor Springs, Bob served as head of the ski patrol at Nub's Nob Ski Patrol and managed the Birchwood Country Club. He was then the head of the foundation at Northern Michigan Regional Hospital, until he retired to spend the winters in Colorado and the summers in Harbor Springs. Bob worked at Vail/Beaver Creek for the Ski Patrol and Skier Services for the past 20 years. Memorial contributions may be made in Bob's name to the Harbor Springs Area Historical Society, 349 East Main Street, Harbor Springs, Michigan 49740; or to the Northern Michigan Regional Health System, 360 Connable Avenue, Petoskey, Michigan 49770; or to the Harbor Springs United Methodist Church, 343 East Main Street, Harbor Springs, Michigan 49740.
