Robert E. Struthers

Robert Everett Struthers was born in 1920 in Pierce County Nebraska, son of Robert L. Struthers and Gladys Lunberry Struthers. He grew up in Craig Nebraska with his family which included twin sisters Ione and Creone. His parents farmed near Craig when he was growing up. He remembered the hard work and rough times of the dust bowl days. He attended the University of Nebraska where he met his future wife Margaret Arnold. They married upon Bob's graduation from the University and Officer Candidate School for the Navy. They were married for 62 years until Marge's death 2006. Bob served as a gunnery officer on the USS Corina in the Pacific during WWII. His ship was in three battles. Once being hit the waterline by Kamikaze Plane, and finally disabled by a Kamikaze boat. Marge lived in Los Angeles California while he was stationed aboard ship, and gave birth to son Bob, while there. After the was Bob began his career as an economist with the Bureau of Reclamation in Casper, Wyoming, whre Mary was born. They moved to Denver in 1950. where Fred was born. His job took the family to Washigton DC for six years. And back to Denver where he finished his career with the bureau in 1970. His expertise in development of water projects took him throughout the US and the world. His work took him to projects in Costa Rica, Peru, Philippines, Java, Korea, and Sudan. Marge often accompanied him while traveling for the Bureau and after retirement. They lived for eighteen months in Java on one assignment. In their travels throughout the world and United States, they always stopped to see friends and relatives. During retirement, Bob and Marge moved to Longmont where they were active in community groups and made many friends. Bob is survided by two sisters, Ione Christenson of Denver and Creone Thurben of Centennial, his three children, four grandchildren and four great~grandchildren.
