Robert Matthew Talbot

November 1, 1923 — October 31, 2010

Robert M. (Bob) Talbot was born November 1, 1923 near Weehauken, New Jersey. He lived, worked and attended school there until World War II broke out. He enlisted in what was then the U.S. Army Air Corps later to become the U.S. Air Force. He was stationed at various locations during the war, eventually ending up at Lowry Air Force Base in Denver, Colorado. This is where he met and married Denver, Colorado, native Shirley A.(Norquist) Talbot. Bob was stationed at Lowry Air Base so they bought their first home close by in Aurora, CO. where they lived and raised three daughters, Cindy, Laura and Marsha. Bob retired from active military duty after 20 years, he tried selling life insurance and climbing telephone poles until he finally enlisted in the 140th tactical fighter squadron at Colorado Air National Guard Base at Buckley field in Aurora. He worked his way up the ""ladder"" until he became the Administrative Assistant to General Joe Moffit. After Bob retired from the Air National Guard he continued working as a volunteer, driving the bus for the Aurora Senior Center, delivering ""Meals on Wheels"", conducting home energy audits for AARP, and actively participating in the following organizations; Aurora Junior Chamber of Commerce , Masonic Lodge #5 AF & AM, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 10581, National Association of Retired Federal Employees #1769, The Other Side of the Mountain Gang at Buckley Field, Instructor of ""55 and Alive"" driving program for AARP, Frolics Club at Heather Gardens, and Aurora based ""Reader's Theater"". Bob and Shirley loved to travel and were members of Denver based ""Ports Of Call"". They conducted or participated in ""Elder Hostels"" all over the world. Bob's passion, however, was theater and the audience. He knew hundreds of jokes and was always looking for ""new material"". He had a staring role in the Aurora Playhouse Theater's production of ""Arsenic and Old Lace"". You could always count on Bob to don a goofy outfit and participate in local talent shows either in Aurora or Victor, Colorado, where they had a summer home. Bob will most notably be remembered for his portrayal of Jeannette Mac Donald in one hilarious Aurora Frolics production. At six foot three and 185 pounds, his version of Jeanette Mac Donald truly made her ""larger than life"". Once the girls were grown and gone from home, Bob and Shirley sold their home in Aurora, CO. and moved to Heather Gardens where they lived until 2008. At that time Bob moved into ""assisted living""; first at Generations at Lowry in Denver, CO. and later at Sterling House of Loveland, CO. Bob's goal was to live until his 87th birthday. He died of natural causes on October 31, 2010 .....one day shy of his goal. His family and friends will miss him terribly. Bob was most proud of his military service. He served in the Pacific with the 20th Air Corp., 5th Bomb Squadron, 9th Bomb-Group, 313th Wing. He received the Presidential Citation, American Defense Service Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Service Medal and three Bronze Stars on the WWII Victory Medal. He will be buried in his ""dress blues"" at Ft. Logan Cemetery along side the many other men and women who have proudly served our country. Funeral Service is Monday, November 8, 2010 at 11:00 AM, Horan & McConaty Family Chapel, 9998 Grant Street, Thornton, Colorado with Interment at Fort Logan National Cemetery following at 1:00 PM.
