It’s with broken hearts we share that Robert Allen Wahl III (Rob) passed away from a severe allergic reaction while visiting his son in Ekalaka, Montana on April 24, 2022.
Rob was born in Davenport Iowa on July 9, 1963. He attended Colorado Rocky Mountain High School and graduated from Southern Methodist University. While at SMU, Rob met his lifelong partner, friend and wife Cherie. The young couple moved to Denver Colorado and were married in 1988. He and Cherie have 2 children, Cooper and Spencer.
Rob loved his family and friends more than anything. He was wonderful at keeping in touch with everyone and when he reached out to you, he was generous with his time and attention. Rob genuinely cared about people and worked to show that daily.
About 6 years ago, Rob and Cherie started looking for a place in the country. They spent weekends driving to the towns that surround Denver and finally 4 years ago found their current home in Elizabeth. Narrow Gate Farm was born and it became the center of his life. Raising steers, renovating the property, hosting Cooper’s wedding - Rob poured himself into Narrow Gate Farm and loved it.
Spending time with his sons and friends in the field was at the top of Rob’s list of fun. He had long standing “Father Son” pheasant hunts, duck hunts and fishing trips. Watching his dogs Dagmar and Rupert work was his great love. Rob’s other great love was sailing. Just mention it and he grew excited to share stories and book a trip. Although he lived in landlocked Colorado, Rob made it a priority to sail in the Caribbean as often as he could, which was never enough. Rob would gather friends and coordinate trips whenever possible.
Rob and Cherie were married a year after graduation. They worked on their careers with Rob starting Sunlight Sales a few years before starting their family. They were blessed with 2 sons, Cooper and Spencer. Life was full with hunting, skiing, sailing and all the boys’ sports. Their marriage goal (thanks you William Sumner) was to have a “Legendary Marriage!” He and Cherie were husband and wife, parents, friends, confidantes, business coaches and partners. The kind of love they shared doesn’t happen for most and wasn’t wasted on them. They knew how lucky they were and were always grateful for what they had with each other.
The final pillar in Rob’s life was his faith. Rob’s journey over the last 5 years led him to discover the love of God in a very meaningful way. He was always working to deepen his connection and commitment. Rob was planning to create ministries to introduce children to Christ through agriculture and working with animals.
Rob is survived by the love of his life, Cherie Wahl, his devoted sons, Cooper Allen Wahl (Jenny), Spencer Wahl, his parents Al and Karen Wahl, his brother and sister, Mark Wahl, Mari Henry (David) his nephews, Christopher Wahl, David Castino (Emily), Charlie Castino (Grace), Max Barretto, his Mother in Law, June Markstone, and an incredible army of friends who we want to thank with an incredible depth of gratitude for all they have done to support the family through this devastating time.
A funeral mass for Rob will be held at Our Lady of the Visitation Catholic Church in Kiowa Colorado at 11am on Saturday May 7, 2022, preceded at 10:30am with a Rosary. Attire is informal. You are encouraged to come as Rob would have in your best jeans and boots. A gathering will be held afterwards.
It is in Rob’s spirit to introduce Christ to youth, so we are asking that in lieu of flowers please consider donating to Training in Truth in his name ( https://gofund.me/daf836db ). He was so very excited about the work being done there and we will help build an indoor riding facility to allow year-round apprenticeship programs.
