Robert ""Bob"" Worrell

June 11, 1930 — April 14, 2017

Robert Leslie ""Bob"" Worrell, 86 of Lakewood, Colorado passed away on April 14, 2017. Bob was born in Baltimore, Maryland on June 11, 1930 and grew up in the Baltimore area. He married his wife Dolores on September 12, 1953 while attending the University of Maryland and graduated in 1954 with a Mechanical Engineering degree. Following graduation he went to work for Douglas Aircraft in Long Beach, California. After a short stint they returned to Baltimore and he went to work for the Glenn L. Martin Company prior to entering the Air Force in June of 1955. Stationed in Colorado Springs for his two years of service, Bob left the Air Force and returned home to Baltimore and back to work for the Martin Company. In 1959, he took a job with the company's new aerospace division and moved his family to Colorado where he spent the next 58 years. After a long and successful career, Bob retired in 1991 and began the second phase of his life. First and foremost, Bob was a family man who cherished the time he spent with his kids and grandkids, attending countless school and sporting events, graduations and weddings. Known for his love of vacations, a favorite tradition he established was the family trips to the South Jersey Shore in Stone Harbor. Bob first visited Stone Harbor with his own family in 1938, and enjoyed spending time there over the next 78 years. He absolutely loved Stone Harbor and always looked forward to the next time he could spend a vacation at the beach. Bob was also an avid golfer, who like most never quite mastered the game. Despite that, he loved to play and was fortunate to be able to enjoy the game well into his 80's. The one thing Bob did excel at after moving to Colorado was skiing. His silky smooth style stood out on the slopes and he was able to pass the technique onto his children. A longtime fan of the Denver Broncos, Bob later in life became a huge fan of the Colorado Rockies as well, and spent many a spring and summer day attending and watching games. Bob is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Dolores Worrell, four children: Linda Schaer and husband Bill of Aurora, Colorado, Doug Worrell and wife Jonnye of Evergreen, Colorado, Pat Worrell and wife Shelly of Midland, Texas, Carol Thompson and husband Tom of Littleton, Colorado. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren and four great grandchildren (with another one due in May), as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cherished friends. Bob was preceded in death by his parents G. Leslie Worrell and Mabel B. Worrell, as well as his brother Jacob S. Worrell and his sister Jane E. Rugguri. A visitation will be held from 4:00 to 6:00 pm on Sunday, April 23 at Horan & McConaty Funeral Home located at 3101 S. Wadsworth Blvd., Lakewood, Colorado. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 am on Monday, April 24 at Horan & McConaty, followed by interment at Fort Logan National Cemetery located at 4400 W. Kenyon Ave., Denver, Colorado. Donations can be made to the Caring Voice Coalition, or a charity of your choice.
