Robert C. Rohan

February 27, 1949 — June 2, 2021

Robert Charles Rohan passed away on Wednesday, June 2, at his home in Centennial, Colorado with his family by his side. Robert was a youthful 72, with plans in the making, dreams on the horizon, life yet to be lived. So before recounting his rich and varied past, a tribute to his rich and varied future intentions:

Robert, the lover of family, intended: more precious adventures with his son Greg & daughter-inlaw Timsy; more treasured visits from his son Mark, daughter-in-law Tiffany & granddaughter Alina; more parties and picnics with his sisters, Kathy, Muffy, Debbie, and Laurie, his nieces and nephews, his cousins, and all his extended relations too numerous to count; more trips and happy hours with his multitude of friends. Robert intended more time with everyone he loved.

Robert, the avid golfer, intended perfecting his game of golf, deferring to such self-authored documents as “Swing Thoughts and Triage” or to such revered theories as the “Stack and Tilt” methodology. Robert, the avid traveler, intended making his way round the world a third time including walking tours of Southeast Asia, a bicycle tour in Czechoslovakia, and a visit to India to meet Timsy’s parents. Robert, the consummate investor, intended cracking the stock market code, applying his compiled “Secrets for Profiting in Bull and Bear Markets” or his copyrighted “Streamlined Stock Trading Rules” or his abbreviated “Quick Trade Rules on Rebounds and Reversals in High Volatility Situations.” Robert, the wine connoisseur and chef, intended visiting more wineries, hosting more dinners, drinking more scotch, toasting more of all life had to offer. Robert intended more time to do everything he loved.

So before you read on, pause. Think of the myriad ways in which you encountered and engaged and celebrated this man. Then, hold those images close, bringing them with you into your own future. For Robert (AKA Bob)’s spirit will be with you in the making of those memories to come.

Robert was born in Denver, Colorado in 1949, the third of six children born to Patricia McNamara and Lacy Richard Rohan. Robert’s early years were actively spent, from lively gatherings with extended family and their host of cousins to whimsical diversions such as skipping school to complete a foursome for his mother’s bridge club. He attended Regis High School, where he earned an additional diploma in Latin and an academic membership in the Monogram Club.

Robert headed to California for college in 1967, earning a BS in Economics at USF in 1971 and an MBA at Golden State University in 1975. His career, with a specialization in tax compliance, included a tenure at Lloyds Bank (SF), Peat, Marwick, Mitchell & Co. (SF), and ENI Exploration Co. (Bellevue, WA). When that latter enterprise dissolved, Robert’s entrepreneurial years began.

Rallying the skilled professionals he had managed as Director of Taxation at ENI, Robert established two subsequent companies, Olympic Partnership Services, Inc. and Impact 1040 Corporation. Then, merging his love of business development with his love of wine, Robert helped establish Snoqualmie Winery, their core team including renown winemaker Joel Klein.

In 1992, Robert’s entrepreneurial talents took a turn toward family, co-founding FRx Software with his brother Mike. The company grew over the next 8 years to a force of 150 employees with a global distribution chain. In 2000, FRx was acquired by Microsoft, though Robert stayed on as a V.P. until 2003. Robert’s final career stint was again a software development venture with his brother Mike, serving first as an Executive V.P. then as an Executive Advisor with Rivet Software.

Ultimately, Robert’s many interests beyond career ushered in an early retirement. From 2007 on, Robert energetically pursued his delight in family, his love of travel, his dedication to golf, his running total of vertical feet skied, and his models for trading stocks. He especially treasured his final years spent in St. George, Utah, where he hiked innumerable mountains and slot canyons and made many new friends.

Robert lived life on his terms, enthusiastically, happily, and with an openness to others sharing in his activities, interests and excursions. His legacy will live on through the many people he loved and mentored and inspired. Raise a glass, grape or grain, in his name. He would like that.
