Rodney Maurer Beck Jr.

July 16, 1928 — October 12, 2019

Rodney M. Beck Jr. age 91, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on October 12th at Porter Hospice in Centennial, CO. He was born on July 16, 1928 in Pittsburgh, PA to parents Rodney M. Beck and Mary Douglass Beck. He attended the University of Colorado where he met and married the love of his life, Diane Carolyn Dozier on September 5, 1950, who preceded him in death.

Together they had four children who all live in the Denver area and mourn his passing; David (Kathryn) Beck, Bruce (Dawn) Beck, Bill (Sue) Beck and Mary (Tom) Kauffman. He was also a grandfather of ten and a great-grandfather of six.

After several years working in the oil business in Wichita, Kansas he and Diane moved to Colorado and in 1963 he opened B&H Sport and Team Center in Downtown Littleton and grew it into one of the most well-respected sporting goods stores in Colorado. In addition to working with the community of athletes in a sizable retail space, Rod and his staff worked very closely with the coaches, administrators and athletic departments of virtually every high school, college and professional team in the area. In addition to his professional success, he has countless great friends that he made over the years through his volunteer association with Little League Baseball. He was a co-founder of South East Denver Little League, Senior League, and Big League and served as District Administrator for these leagues for several years. Rod was an avid fan of all the local sports teams but especially the Broncos and the Rockies. He has been a Broncos season ticket holder since the very first day that tickets went on sale in 1959 when the AFL franchise was announced.

The family would like to invite you to attend a celebration of Rod's life that they will be hosting on Friday, November 15th from 1:30pm to 4:30pm at Big Bill's Pizza at County Line and Holly. Please come and share a story or two and enjoy the company of this great man's friends and family. In lieu of flowers, the family would encourage donations to the Porter Hospice at Johnson Center, 5020 E. Arapahoe Road, Centennial, CO 80122.
