Roger William Catts

February 25, 1926 — December 11, 2009

Roger William Catts, age 83, of Castle Rock, Colorado passed from this life Friday, December 11, 2009. Roger suffered significant injury in a fall in late November. His death was caused by secondary illness. Roger was born February 25, 1926 in Kansas City, Missouri to George William and Annette Steele Catts. His siblings were Vivian Woolpert and Barbara Wilbrandt (deceased). Roger married Barbara Carter on March 1, 1952 in Kansas City, Missouri. ""Bobbi"" was, and is, the great joy of his life. Roger graduated from Southwest High School in Kansas City prior to serving in the United States Army Air Force during World War II. Upon his return to the states, he enrolled in the University of Missouri (Sigma Chi) where he graduated with a degree in Business. Roger began a very successful professional career in Kansas City where he worked a number of years until accepting a position in Lincoln, Nebraska in 1964. His entire career was spent in the sales and executive management of concrete construction materials companies. His work took him to the Denver, Colorado area in 1979 where he finished his career and retired in 1988. Through his career he served in many national organizations and received numerous accolades for service in promoting his industry. Roger was baptized a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1977 after he and Barbara were married for 25 years. He had resisted the inclination to join the Church for many years while always being wonderfully supportive of the rest of the family. When he finally realized he had an abiding testimony for the Church's teaching, he was baptized and never looked back. He and Barbara were sealed for time and eternity in the Salt Lake City temple a year later. In retirement, Roger and Barbara chased new adventures by moving to the Pacific Northwest, living in Port Angeles, Washington where they resided until 1999. At that time, they returned to Colorado to be closer to their children and grandchildren. While there was no one hobby that consumed his time, Roger had many interests. Foremost, Roger loved being a father and husband and served his family and others by always being an example of generosity, kindness, and honor. In the church Roger was known to all for the tireless service he offered as a Bishop and High Councilman and all other capacities to which he was called. Roger's enduring legacy is his loving wife and family. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Catts and his children Brian Carter Catts (Roxie Lundquist Catts, spouse) of Tucson, AZ, Rebecca (Catts) Knutson (Scott Knutson) of Cortes Island, British Columbia, and Stephen Bradley Catts (Margaret Kanters Catts) of Parker, Colorado. His grandchildren are Kristina Faye Knutson (residing in Portland, OR), Cheryl Catts (Salt Lake City, UT), Jill Elizabeth Catts (Salt Lake City, UT), Kevin Knutson (Victoria, BC, Canada), Daniel Stephen Catts (Provo, UT), and Adelinde Catts (Tucson, AZ). Roger is also survived by his older sister, Vivian Woolpert of Leawood, Kansas. Visitation will be held Wednesday, December 16, 2009 from 6:30 to 8:00 PM, at Horan & McConaty Family Chapel, 5303 East County Line Road (just to the west of Holly Street), in Centennial, Colorado 80122. Funeral Service will be held Thursday, December 17, 2009 at 11:00 AM, at the Timberline Chapel of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 7471 Timberline Road in Lone Tree, Colorado 80124. Interment immediately follows the service at Cedar Hill Cemetery, 800 East Wolfensberger Road, in Castle Rock, Colorado 80109.
