Roger Kenneth Hanson, 78 years young, peacefully passed away September 2, 2017, after a long illness. Roger, the first of five siblings, was born June 18, 1939, in Minneapolis, MN, to Esther and LeVerne Hanson. Growing up, he loved to fish in the Minnesota lakes with his siblings and became a young lifeguard. He survived polio as a teenager and was able to graduate as Valedictorian, as a Senior in High School. He was proud to drive his younger siblings around in his TR3 Triumph sportscar and had a special place in his heart for animals, specifically (Labrador) dogs. Roger moved to Colorado in 1959, to attend the University of Denver and to enjoy the outdoor life and beautiful mountains. In 1962, he served in the United States Army and was later transferred to the Reserve Army National Guard where he completed his military service as a First Lieutenant. He met his wife, Pam, (recently celebrating their 50-year anniversary) at the University of Denver, earning his degree in Engineering. Roger was a Christian family man, outdoor fisherman, avid DU Pioneer Hockey fan, and stayed true to his Norwegian heritage. His projects as a Civil Engineer included designing reservoirs and modeling water rights for the Colorado River; as well as, inspections of ski-lift equipment throughout the ski resorts of Colorado. In 1978, he relocated with his family to Boulder. There, he continued to enjoy fishing/camping/four- wheel driving, coaching his sonâs hockey team, singing tenor in his churchâs choir and building lifetime friendships. In 2005, he retired as an engineer and later moved with Pam to Tabernash, Colorado, to enjoy their mountain home.
