With great sadness, the family of Roger Allen Thompson shares his passing on April 28, 2019. Roger was born on April 29, 1949, to Oral and Bea Thompson in Los Angeles, California.
Roger is survived by his wife Carole, daughter Amanda and husband Damien Anstett along with their children Jaxon and Kaia, son Adam and wife Deanne, and son Greg and wife Katie along with their newborn son Baker. He is also survived by his brother Steve and wife Lynn and their children Stephanie, Chris, and Will and grandchildren Celeste and Whitley.
Roger met Carole, his wife of 49 years, while attending Montebello High School, from where he graduated in 1967. He went on to the University of California Irvine where he received his Bachelor of Science in Engineering in 1971 (and met his best and lifelong friend Jim Bragstad). Roger's career began at B. F. Goodrich in Los Angeles. He spent the majority of his career at Coors in Golden, Colorado. During his time at Coors, Roger traveled to Europe and South America. While at Coors, he received several patents. Other career highlights include developing solar energy for numerous villages in South America and Indonesia while risking the steep, mountainous roads and the snakes in the bushes.
Roger continued his exploration of solar energy at American Electric Vehicles as Vice-President for Project Design where he had the pleasure of working alongside his son Adam.
Besides electrical engineering and all the science included therein, Roger enjoyed the great outdoors. On two occasions, he took his sons on Boundary Waters adventures with their scout groups. He also enjoyed hiking the Grand Canyon with his brother and their sons. Roger had a great love of fishing, and whenever he drove the byways of Colorado, he always carried his fishing rod since ""one never knows."" Being a lifelong Boy Scout, he was always prepared.
Roger and Carole's children grew up active in sports, and Roger enjoyed it all, particularly the swimming and soccer events, always ready to contribute to whatever his kids needed in their learning and being present at the games (and fundraisers!). In the last few years, Roger, now Papa, absolutely loved attending Jaxon's and Kaia's numerous sports activities, working/playing with like-minded scientist/electrical engineer Jaxon, taking his beloved grandchildren out to eat who shared his love of doughnuts, and helping facilitate the Nana/Papa Summer Adventures. Roger was able to meet his newest grandson Baker at only 5 days old, and to hear the joyful news that his 4th grandchild is expected in September. Roger's love for his grandchildren as well as all his family and friends will live on with them, inspiring them with his courage and strength.
A celebration of Roger's life will be held on Tuesday, May 7, at 10:30 AM at Horan & McConaty, 3101 S. Wadsworth Blvd., Lakewood, Colorado 80227, followed by a private interment at Seven Stones.
Memorial donations can be made to the Epilepsy Foundation of Colorado: www.epilepsycolorado.org.
