Roland Glover Rogers, 85 passed away at home December 28 2013. Born March 18, 1939 in Colorado Springs to Carl and Audra Dee Rogers. Rolly graduated early from Colorado Springs High School in 1946 so he could join the Navy on active duty at the end of WWII. He returned to enroll in Colorado College where he played football, pledged to Sigma Chi and met the love of his life, Carol Weigen. They were married in 1950 and enjoyed 63 years of marriage. After graduation with a degree in geology, Rolly worked for Colorado Interstate Gas among others for a long career in the field of his choice but always making time for hiking, running, backpacking and maintenance on the Colorado Trail completing the entire 500 miles of the trail in 1997. He hung up his hiking boots in 2010 at age 82. He is survived by his children, Susan Miner (Bob), John Rogers, Amy Martel (Bill), and James Rogers (Laura); grandchildren Joanne Starkey (Jason), Bonnie Rogers, Austin Rogers and Bennett Rogers; and his great grandchildren Tristan Starkey and Hayden Starkey; his brother Don Rogers (Connie) as well as many nieces and nephews and their families most of whom were hiking companions at one time or another. He was preceded in death by his sister, Carla Rogers Reinking. The Celebration of Life for Rolly will be held at the Brown Palace Hotel, main ballroom, Jan 12th 2014, 12:00 noon. He will be cremated and his cremains spread by the family at the cabin. His life will be documented on the family plot headstone in Evergreen Cemetery, Colorado Springs, CO.
