Ronald Eugene Boyd

Ronald Eugene (Ron) Boyd, aged 70, passed away at home in the early morning hours of January 6, 2025 after a courageous three year battle with cancer.

Born June 17, 1954, in Oklahoma City, he studied Fine Art at the University of Oklahoma and graduated in 1976 with a BFA in film and video production.

Ron relocated to Colorado in 1977 to begin a career as a video photographer at Jeppesen Sanderson corporation and later Presbyterian St. Luke’s Medical Center, where he was the in-house photographer, videographer, and public relations professional.

Making the shift from Corporate/industrial filmmaking to network television news, he was appointed head photographer at ABC affiliate KRDO in Colorado Springs and KWGN TV chief photographer.

Over a 14-year television career, he was recognized for creativity and professionalism. While at Denver Channel 8 Ron was photographer for an Emmy award winning News team in the category of special feature hard news.

Returning to the public/private sector, Ron built his own company specializing in commercial advertising and live broadcast. For the city of Denver, he was producer and director of “AV LIVE”

Ron was a curious Artist and loved traveling with his wife, Patricia Shipley, exploring east and west coasts of the US as well as Europe and Mexico. A passionate model train enthusiast from childhood, he built numerous N Gauge layouts based on historic locations. His creative work extended as family Archivist, capturing and collecting historical documents and photographs from early World War I and II.

Rather than mailing holiday cards, Ron was known to produce and direct an annual Christmas video, recounting personal and family highlights of the past year. The annual video production spanned an approximately 20-year period and was greeted with enthusiasm by those lucky enough to receive this holiday treat. Throughout his life, Ron was an avid lover of the outdoors. He enjoyed wildlife photography and consumed hours reviewing outdoor footage capturing local animal life on his property near Pueblo County. He enjoyed hiking, skiing, bicycling plus target practice with bow and arrow.

Ron was a true western man who relished the great outdoors with a love of the natural world.

Ron is survived by his wife, Patricia Shipley of Denver, and sister, Carol Reed, of Alexandria, Virginia.

Private family arrangements are being handled through Horan & McConaty. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Ron‘s name to Accenture Hospice of Denver.
