Ronald “Ron” Dahl passed away in Denver, Colorado after battling cancer bravely for many years. He was surrounded by the people who loved him the most- his wife and three daughters.
On May 8, 1947, Ron was born in Ephrata, Washington to Kenneth and Daisy (Adlard) Dahl. He grew up on the family farm near Cooperstown, North Dakota, graduating from Cooperstown High School in 1965. He earned the honor of Eagle Scout during his high school years. He joined the Marines in 1966 and served two years in Vietnam. During this time period, he worked as a translator. He earned many commendations, including the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, Rifle Sharpshooter Badge, and Good Conduct Medal. Upon returning from Vietnam, he moved to Boulder, Colorado where he met his wife, Gerry. He graduated from the University of Colorado at Boulder with a Bachelor’s degree in both Engineering and Business. After graduation, he started a construction company in Boulder with his brother Steve. Ron went to work for Gerald H. Phipps in 1978 and was employed until his retirement in 2006. Upon his retirement, he spent most of his time in Cooperstown, North Dakota caring for his father and helping on the family farm. Ron served as a Commissioner in Griggs County from 2013 to 2017.
Ron was passionate about genealogy, spending many years researching and sharing information about his ancestry. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. He had a great sense of humor, a kind heart, and a sweet tooth.
Ron will be forever missed by his wife, Gerry; his daughters Kimberly Dahl, Bonnie Hernandez, and Courtney Dahl; and his grandchildren Miguel Hernandez, Stella and Ava Polz.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Daisy Dahl, and his brother Steven Dahl.
