In Loving Memory of Ronald Walter Meyers
Ronald Walter Meyers, affectionately known as Ron, peacefully passed away in the comfort of his Brighton, Colorado home on September 9, 2023, at the age of 87.
Despite confronting a challenging 12-year journey with dementia and later Alzheimer's, Ron displayed humility and kindness. Each day, as his loving wife of 63 years, Joyce, served him his morning coffee, he would softly say, "thank you, Dear." Joyce was his full-time caregiver in their home until his passing.
Ron entered this world on October 27, 1935, in Detroit, Michigan, born to Walter and Oriale Meyers. It was upon his return from the Air Force that he encountered the love of his life, Joyce, and they exchanged vows on June 24, 1960. Ron's professional journey led him to the aerospace industry, where he contributed as an electrical engineer, notably participating in the creation of the Multiple Launch Rocket System team.
In 1993, he retired from Lockheed Martin but continued to share his knowledge by working part-time with the Army.
Adventure was a part of Ron's life. A man of few words but tremendous work ethic, he dedicated long hours to support his family. Yet, when it was time for family vacations, he loved having everyone together. Ron had a passion for riding motorcycles, sailing, golf, archery, racquetball, and cross-country skiing, enjoying the great outdoors and camping. His vacation escapades began with tents and gradually evolved into campers and from there, hotels!
Sports and dogs held a special place in his heart; he played recreational hockey, a rite of passage growing up in Michigan, when he no longer played, he loved to watch the Red Wings and then of course the Colorado Avalanche. Over the course of Ron’s life, he and Joyce had 12 dogs, most recently his beloved Keena who loved Ron dearly.
Throughout the years Ron taught Sunday School to children and then adults. Ron and Joyce warmly opened their home to church home groups, nurturing relationships while studying God's Word. Despite having dedicated most of his life to the study of God's Word, it was at the age of 70 that Ron made the deliberate choice to allocate time for formal Biblical training. He successfully earned his Biblical Studies Certificate from Moody Bible College.
Ron’s life, including his memory loss, was marked with grace and dignity, a testament to his character and his unwavering relationship with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. His children have described him as an honorable man.
A Celebration of Life in honor of Ron will take place on September 21st at 11am at Horan and McConaty Funeral Home-Thornton, CO.
Ron leaves behind a cherished legacy. He is survived by his beloved wife, Joyce, and their children: Scott (Debra), Lisa, Lori (Eric), and Craig (Cynthia). His memory also lives on through his grandchildren: Matthew and David Meyers; Ryan (Kirsten) Farstad and Carl Farstad; Nathaniel and Emily Cate Meyers; and great-granddaughter, Addison Farstad. Ron also held a special place in his heart for his dear sister, Eunice McLellan, whom he affectionately called "his boss," and leaves behind numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. To Ron, family was everything and he’s now reunited with those family members that went before him and knew their Lord and Savior.
