Ronald Allen Rohde

December 8, 1928 — May 17, 2017

Ronald Allen Rohde peacefully went to be with the Lord on May 17, 2017 in his home in Centennial, Colorado at the age of 88. Ron was born December 8, 1928 on a farm in western Nebraska to George and Emma (Kurth). He had 5 brothers and 3 sisters. He graduated from Gurley High School in 1946. He married the sweetheart of his life Doris Schroeder in February 1951 and soon after the nuptials, the Army sent him to Japan and then to Korea where he served in the communications unit. He was discharged in August of 1952 and returned to Sidney, NE. The couple were blessed with two children, Bruce in May 1953 and Brenda in November 1955. Ron began a career in the oil industry on a drilling rig near Sidney, NE. He continued working in the oil field as a salesman and in 1969, he was promoted to Area Operations Manager with Dresser Industries and moved to Littleton, Colorado. He retired in 1986 from Dresser and while both enjoying many rounds of golf himself, worked as a golf course ranger at the Lone Tree Country Club. He did that until his eye sight would no longer permit him to drive the carts in 1999. As a hobby, Ron was a self-taught woodworker. Over the years he made several grandfather clocks, curio cabinets, display racks for the pro-shop at Lone Tree, several display pieces for Ascension Lutheran Church (including the mailbox, the advent wreath stand, the baptismal candle stand, the greeting card display case, the welcome center, and the parament chest all still currently in use), and a gorgeous cherry bed loved and cherished by his granddaughter. He enjoyed making smaller items for his home, friends, and family. While making a TV stand, he lost two finger tips to one of his woodworking tools, but that never slowed him down. Ron was a fun loving, good-spirited, and faithful Christian who cared for his family with a fierce love. He could work a needle on a cross-stitch just as easily as he ran a saw for his woodworking. He could be serious and focused and then kicking up his heels to ""Proud Mary"" on the dance floor. He brought joy to the many people who were blessed to know him and he will be sorely missed and so fondly remembered. Ron is survived by his wife of 66 years, son Bruce, daughter Brenda, daughter-in-law Charmaine, granddaughter and spouse Kristine and Brian, grandson and spouse Drew and Catherine, and three beautiful great-granddaughters Maegan, Kaley, and Felicity, all living in the Denver area. Also, brothers Gerald (Neoma), Grand Junction, CO, LaVon (Betty), Lawton, OK, Randall (Marlene), Columbus, NE, sister Beverly Todenhoff, Aberdeen, WA, former sister-in-law Carolyn, Columbus, NE, ten nephews, and four nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, Wayne and Larry, 2 sisters, Shirley Carlson and Norma Jean Morrell, 2 sisters-in law, Donna and Patricia, 3 brothers-in law, Kenneth Carlson, Arthur Todenhoff, Harry Morrell, and 3 nephews. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, June 3, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Ascension Lutheran Church 1701 W Caley Ave., Littleton, CO. Rev. John Larson will be officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Ron's name to Ascension Lutheran Church (Project Peter). Please share memories of Ronald and condolences with his family by signing the guestbook below.
