Roque Eloy Marquez, Sgt Major, USMCR, 91 years of age, Aurora, CO passed away on Sunday, February 7, 2016. A Rosary will be held Monday, February 15, 2016, 6:30pm at Horan and McConaty Family Chapel, 11150 E Dartmouth Ave, Aurora, CO. The Funeral Mass will be held Tuesday, February 16, 2016, 12 Noon also at Horan & McConaty with interment immediately following at Ft Logan National Cemetery, 2:15 PM Staging Area C. Roque was born in Alamosa, CO on November 13, 1924. He graduated from Alamosa High School and continued on to receive a Bachelor's Degree in Urban Planning from Loretta Heights College. Roque served in the US Marine Corp from 1941-1969. He was in combat in Guadalcanal, Peleliu, Okinawa, and Vietnam. He was awarded four Presidential Unit Citations and One Navy Cross. Following a decorated military career, he went on to a career with the City of Littleton as a Zoning Administrator. Following his retirement from the City of Littleton he taught for the American Red Cross. Roque is survived by his two daughters, Louise Richardson, Denver, CO, and Joanne (Tim Macy) Marquez, Sun Prairie, WI; adopted daughter, Mary Beth Vasco; four grandchildren who were the light of his life, Alexandra Racquel Albert, Evan Richardson, Daniel Macy and Connor Macy; his sisters, Lucy Ruybal and Geraldine Banks; and numerous other family and friends. Roque was preceded in death by his wife Astrid Ingeborg Helgestad who he married on February 2, 1952 in Oslo, Norway - they were married 49 years; his parents, Jose and Amalia Cordova Marquez; his sisters, Fede Mestas, Carmen Lynch and Mary Newman; and his brothers, Guy, Larry, Raymond, and Gilbert. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to Cancer League of Colorado or the Marine Corps Memorial Fund. The family of Roque Marquez wishes to thank the staff at the Colorado State Veterans Home who so lovingly took care of him the last three years of his life.
