Rosie “Rose” Velasquez beautiful, loving mother, grandmother, wife, sister, aunt, great aunt, cousin and friend passed away peacefully in her sleep 8/16/2020. Rose was born 2/6/37 in Wagon Mound, NM to Annie and David Sanchez. She grew up in Cimarron, NM where she met her future husband. Rose married William “Bill” Velasquez 10/29/60 and they moved to Denver, Colorado where they raised their four children for almost 60 years.
Rose loved working at their family business Bill’s Produce, Inc. at the local flea markets stands (Bonanza, Mile High and Denargo Markets) for over 38 years where her and Bill taught their kids the value of honest work. She enjoyed camping and fishing with her family and loved fixing flowers and working in the garden to make her yard look beautiful and colorful. She loved cheering on her hometown sports teams (Nuggets, Broncos and Rockies) She loved listening to old country music like Loretta Lynn and Kitty Wells and New Mexican bands such as Lorenzo Antonio and Sparx.
She was a woman of strong catholic faith. She enjoyed praying the rosary on a daily basis with her husband. Her life was dedicated to her children and grandchildren and praying for her entire family. Rose and her husband volunteered at Holy Cross Church and enjoyed the many friendships they made. She enjoyed her part-time job cleaning an office building once a month and worked at it up until earlier this year.
She is survived by her husband Bill Velasquez, her Daughter & Son-in-Law, Betty and David Cortez, Son and Daughter-in-Law William Jr. & Buffy Velasquez, Daughter Annie Velasquez and Son & Daughter-In-Law Steven & Sandra Velasquez, Grandsons David Cortez Jr., (Kevin), Jeremy Cortez (Bea), Brandon Cortez (Kaitlyn), Derek Cortez, Billy Velasquez, Stevie Velasquez, and her only Granddaughter who was named after her, Ashley Rose Velasquez and Great Grandson little Lorenzo. She is also survived by her sisters Teresa LeDoux and Martha Lindsey, brothers Joseph Sanchez, Dick Sanchez, Billy Sanchez, Eddie Sanchez and Elmer Sanchez. Plus, many more (beloved by Rose) sister and brother-in laws, nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
Rose was preceded in death by her mother & father Annie and David Sanchez, mother and father-in-law Onesimo and Frances Velasquez, baby Marvin Velasquez, nephews Leroy Velasquez, Andy Gonzalez, Gilbert, Leonard and Rick Ledoux and sister-in-law Mary Jo Sanchez
Rosary and viewing will be at Holy Cross Church 9371 Wigham Street, Thornton, CO at 7pm on Sunday August 23rd and Mass at 11am on Monday August 24th burial and reception to follow.
*As we have a restricted number of seats, (100 max) please be flexible for both ceremonies if it’s necessary to move or come in and out of the church to allow immediately family members access first. Ushers will be helping with that process.
