Roxie Ann Jones-Herder

September 19, 1956 — November 4, 2012

Mrs. Roxie Ann Herder was born on September 19, 1956 in Asheville, North Carolina to James Greer and Jessie Mae Jones. She was the fourth of five girls; Rebecca, Angeline, Barbara, Beverly and Zelena (whom she adopted as a sister). As a child, she was part of the Macedonia Sunshine Band. She was very funny and was a well-dressed young lady with long, pretty hair that everyone wanted to comb. Roxie attended Livingston Street Elementary while in North Carolina. She relocated to Denver, Colorado in 1971 at the age of fourteen where she attended Morey High School. Roxie was united in marriage with Claude Herder on June 14, 1991. She was the loving mother of four children; Angela, Christopher, Tamisha and Joe Joe. She was the grandmother of ten grandchildren; Fairrin, Angel, Princeton, Tavion, Tanajah, Cyril, Dekese, Kahari, Calvin and Jalen. Although Roxie has four children and ten grandchildren, she also had a host of godchildren whom she loved deeply. As a self-proclaimed entrepreneur, Roxie started several businesses, two of which she had a great passion for; child care and floral arrangements. A woman of deep faith in God, Roxie was a faithful member of New Nations for many years. She served the lord and her church in whatever capacity needed. Roxie enjoyed sharing and teaching her children, grandchildren, and godchildren about God and His word. Roxie was loved by many for living the life of her philosophy; ""You are a child of God"". She always had a word of encouragement for everyone and admonished them to ""stay faithful to God"". She loved Gospel music especially that which Tamisha, Joe Joe and Fairrin made...and oh yeah, that which Chris used to bite! Her love, compassion, caring and beautiful smile will be deeply missed. To know Roxie was to love her. Roxie Herder departed from this life on November 4, 2012. Those left to cherish her memory include her children, grandchildren, adopted children, godchildren, sisters and a host of nieces and nephews and Uncle James Jones and Roxie McKnight (her name sake).
