OBITUARY

In loving memory of Dr. Roy James Atkinson, born September 15, 1927, to Roy and Alice Atkinson in Denver, Colorado. Dr. Atkinson peacefully departed this world on November 30, 2023, surrounded by the love of his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Charlotte Colvin Atkinson.

Dr. Atkinson's legacy is deeply woven into the lives of his six children; Ketha (Richard), James (Gretchen), Mark (Barbara), Patricia (Bradley), Jeanne (David), and Paul (Denise). His devotion extended to his 11 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren, each carrying forward the lessons and love he shared.

Dr. Atkinson was a distinguished alumnus of the University of Colorado and St. Louis Medical Schools. His military and medical career started in a MASH unit during the Korean campaign.

He dedicated his life to the field of Radiology, and continued to serve in the Army Reserves at Fitzsimons Army Medical Center. His pursuit of excellence led to a fulfilling career, and he proudly served as a Retired Colonel in the US Army.

Dr. Atkinson's love of learning extended beyond his professional pursuits. He was a devout Catholic. He found joy in his pursuit of historical knowledge and spent many hours as a library volunteer. His warmth and passion touched the lives of all who knew him. His legacy is one of compassion, love, and a tireless commitment to both his family and community.

As we mourn the loss of a remarkable individual, let us also celebrate the enduring impact of Dr. Roy James Atkinson. May his memory be a source of comfort and inspiration to all who were fortunate enough to know and love him.
