Roy B. Edmundson

Roy Blanchard Edmundson was born April 8, 1920 in Caney, Kansas. He grew up in this town and graduated from Caney High School in 1938. He attended nearby Coffeyville Junior College. While attending college he enrolled in Civilian Pilate training and received his CAA pilots license. In August 1941 he enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps. At the conclusion of basic training he was selected to attend glider pilots training school. The next 4 1/2 years were spent in England and France. He participated in every invasion in Europe, including the Normandy invasion ""D-Day."" In September 1945 he was honorably discharged from the U.S. Air Corps. After returning from Military service, Roy enrolled at Wichita State College majoring in Business. He accepted a job with Phillips Petroleum working for them 27 years at Bartlesville, OK and Denver, CO. Roy married Alberta Lightner on Dec. 5, 1947 and they shared 63 years together. Two sons were born to them: David Ray and Steven Ross. Roy left Phillips and formed his own corporation which specialized in unitization and communication agreements. He ultimately sold his business to some of his employees. In 1999 Roy achieved a life long dream of owning a farm. As a result Arbor Valley Nursery of Brighton was started. Roy was a Past Noble Grand of Caney, KS 2007. He was a member of the A.A.P.L. and D.A.P.L. serving as a director. Roy was given the ""Old Timers"" award and was given the Landman of the Year in 1995. Roy was a member of the World War II Glider Pilots Association. He was a member of the Christ Community Church Congregation. Roy is survived by his wife Alberta, son Steven Edmundson (Elaine), two grandchildren, Matt Edmundson (Angie)and Brandy (Ray) Schoor and six great grandchildren. His son David and brother Warren preceded him in death. Memorial Service, Mon., 2 PM, Horan & McConaty Family Chapel, 11150 E. Dartmouth Ave, (at Parker Rd.), Aurora.
