Roy Hendersen Smith, resident of Heather Gardens, Aurora, CO passed away peacefully October 1, 2015 at the age of 97, after a long series of cardiac complications. He was born in Phillips, NB on February 6, 1918 to Joe and Almyra Smith and was the youngest of seven siblings. Roy is survived by his son Douglas, daughter-in-law Natalie; grandson Nikhal, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was also very close to all of them and always enjoyed their company. Roy is preceded in death by his beloved wife Lorraine, all of his siblings and their spouses, and numerous cousins. Roy met and married his beloved wife Lorraine while in high school and they enjoyed 64 years of marriage. They moved to Denver when Roy took a job as a truck driver. He learned the value of hard work and a job well done from his father, who was a lifelong farmer. Roy retired in 1978 at the age of 60, allowing him and Lorraine to travel and visit with family in Nebraska, Montana, Idaho, and Washington. He was a caring father and husband and was known for his great sense of humor and the stories that he told, and his good character. Adored and loved, not just by his family and friends, but by his neighbors and fellow workers. Roy was the consummate fix-it-guy willing to help anytime. He enjoyed gardening and spending time visiting with family and friends. A deep and unconditional love of faith and family, and a firm belief in the value of hard work is Roy's lasting legacy. Roy's family appreciates all the love and care that Irena Strein, his niece, provided Roy during his long illness and last years. A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, November 8, 11:30 AM at the Grace Methodist Church, 4901 E. Yale, Denver, CO 80222.
