Roy O. Twogood, Sr.

December 13, 1940 — June 29, 2010

Dad led a colorful life and I know why us kids are as mischievous as we are; it was one of the many great traits he passed along. My father was born in Denver, Colorado on December 13, 1940. The son of Claude and Mary Twogood. He was the eldest of 6 children. They were a very poor family and as such, Pop spent virtually all of his life working. In fact, Dad began working at age 10 to help his father support the family. He held various jobs throughout his teens including selling Game Day Programs at the Denver Bear games. ""You can't tell a player without a scorecard"" he used to say. I also remember another tidbit story about his early days when he used to tell me about how he'd climb to the top of the Daniels and Fisher Tower, (now Lannies Clock Tower), in Downtown Denver, hang his feet over the edge and proceed to eat his lunch. ""Back then"" he'd say, ""they didn't have it all closed in"". He was fond of the views and the brief escape it gave him. At age 17, Dad entered the The United States Army and after basic training, he was assigned to special (nuclear) missile activities. He achieved a very high clearance and traveled everywhere completely dedicated to keeping our nation safe and free. However, in terms of rank, he wasn't as successful due to his shenanigans. I remember Pop telling me how he blew up the guard shack two weeks after getting a promotion. That one knocked him down to ""Buck Private"". All kidding aside, Dad was a very highly skilled electronics technician, ""missile man"" and an excellent, decorated, marksman/sharpshooter. He achieved the rank of Specialist 4, E-4 Technical, (told ya he got busted.. Over and over again), before exiting the Army in 1960. Another milestone while in his service life was meeting Mom in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Talk about love at first sight, while Pop was on leave, he spotted Mom in a Telephone Booth talking to Grandma (Bamba) and told his buddies ""See that beautiful girl over there? I'm going to marry her"". So he walked up to the booth and began to push on the door, of course irritating Mom...Who, finally opened the door and said ""Go away""! Dad, without missing a beat said, ""So what are you doing tomorrow?"". Mom replied ""I'll be going to XXXX Lutheran church"". So help me God, the ""goofball"", (as she called him), showed up and started ""schmoozing"" with Grandma... during the whole service! Mable, (Grandma), Finally relented and invited Dad to the house for Ham and Bagels... Saying to Mom "" I really like Roy"". And folks ... That's how it all began. Mom and Dad had four sons, one went into the Furniture industry, one into Operations, another into the Military/Aerospace industry, and one into Teaching. Two Sons have been stricken with Adrenomyeloneuropathy (AMN) and Mom has been diagnosed with the debilitating disease as well as being a carrier. Pop went on to be a top notch leader in the furniture industry and known to this day as one of the foremost ""trouble shooter's"" in the business. In fact, Dad was one of the first inductee's into the ""Furniture Hall of Fame"". In closing, I wanted to share one more special memory we have of Pop as a family. I think Dad's most favorite pastime/hobby was Magic. So much so that Dad developed an act over the years and performed many shows for charities and the like. He would dress as a Clown, Initially known as ""Happy the Clown"", until the day he went to register the name with the clown association. Never knew you had to register a name. At any rate, an Irate, a ""Not so Happy the Clown"", informed my Dad the name was taken, in surprise... ""O' Happy the Clown"" was born. Dad spent years perfecting his passion and his Son's spent years trying to figure them out. I'll say this, it certainly made him practice! Dad donated both corneas, bone (taken from below hip), skin tissue, and tendon/ligaments to the Rocky Mountain Donor/Eye Bank. Mom and Dad will be celebrating their 52nd anniversary this December 31st. Roy Olin Twogood Sr. is the Father of Roy Jr. (Theresa), Randolph (Carol), Shawn (Sylwia). Grandfather of Aubrey, Jacqueline, Ashley (Drew), Shawn II, Evan & Lukas. Great-Grandfather of Christian. Brother of Jessie & Mary Louise. Also survived by numerous nieces, nephews & other relatives & friends. The Funeral Service will be Tuesday, July 6, 2010 at 11AM. Services will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, which is located at 4225 West Yale Ave, followed by the Interment at Fort Logan National Cemetery with full military honors. In state visitation will be from 10:00 to 11:00 A.M. at the church. ""And now as I journey toward the light, Father hear the words I pray, Let not all those I leave behind, Morn for loss, But rejoice in gain, For I am homeward bound.""
