R. Thomas (Tom) Williams, age 76, made his transition on October 5, 2022. He was born in Detroit and resided in several places in Missouri and Arkansas while growing up. He served as the Director of the Dietary Department at William Newton Memorial Hospital in Winfield for many years before he went back to school. He graduated from the University of Kansas with his Master of Social Work in 1990 then proceeded to obtain his clinical social worker credentials. Through his tenure in the realm of social work, he served with Cowley County Mental Health, HeadStart, then in the Winfield, KS Unified School District 465. He had a heart for service, and he poured that heart into his work.
Tom had a passion for antiques: collecting, repairing, and selling with great skill. He was an avid supporter of and participant in local theater that included productions at Southwestern College and Winfield Community Theater. He loved numerous pets over the years as well as a good Renaissance Festival, auction, flea market, or garage sale. He also had numerous friends who he cherished.
He was preceded in death by his son, Daniel, partner, Tim, brother, Richard, and parents. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Lara and Kevin Dunn, his sister, Sarah, and nieces and nephews. He requested that there be no funeral. A memorial/remembrance service is being planned for the late spring or early summer of 2023 in Winfield. Details to follow closer to that time. Donations can be made in his memory at either the Winfield Community Theater (620-221-1700 or dropping them off/sending them to Daylight Donuts, 910 Main St., Winfield, KS 67156) or Cowley County Humane Society (620-221-1698 or at www.CowelyCountyHumanwSociety.org. )
Please share your memories of Tom and condolences with his family by signing the tribute wall.
