Rubena Esther (Harder) Doerksen

October 24,1926 – July 1, 2020

Rubena was born to Frank E and Anna (Siebel) Harder October 24, 1926 on the family farm south of Roscoe and Paxton Nebraska. She was the youngest sibling of 5 and the only girl -Victor, Walter and Harold were her older brothers. One brother, Roland died in childbirth.
She was the closest to Harold and they played together a lot. While walking with brother Harold as a young child, they stopped on the top of a hill, looked both ways to make sure there were no cars coming, Rubena knelt down and accepted Jesus Christ into her life.
She said her brother Victor teased her a lot. So much so that one day she threw a glass of water at him. Walter (Lois) lived in Fresno and the two families celebrated many holiday dinners together. She attended District #8 elementary school in Paxton, high school in Ogallala, and took classes at The Bible Institute of Los Angeles.
One day while sitting on the porch reading her Bible, a young man came up to the house. He had been traveling with the harvest and was looking for one of her neighbors. His name was Bill Doerksen. They fell in love and on a trip back from seeing his family in Meade Kansas, they had a train stop in Denver and he proposed to her at the Denver Zoo. They were married July 29, 1945 and promptly drove to California on bald war rationed tires to attend The Bible Institute of Los Angeles (Biola).
Rubena moved with husband Bill to Fresno where her children were born, Sharon Colleen 11/5/51 and Linda Elaine 3/25/55. She was a foster mom to several children. Bill became a pastor and she became his pianist. They served churches in Friant, Madera, Chowchilla, and Susanville, California.
She is survived by daughters Sharon (Ken) Dahlenburg and Linda Doerksen Allen, grandchildren, Jason Allen (deceased), Sharla (Dahlenburg) Hennecke (David), Alissa Prieb (Ryan), Skylar Dahlenburg (Erin), Rebecca Allen and Caleb Roy, great grandchildren, Ariana, Brienna , Rylee and Janelle.
Proceeding her in death, father Frank, mother Anna, Brothers Victor, Walter, Harold, Roland, grandson Jason and several miscarried babies she will love to hold in heaven. Husband Bill went home to be with the Lord December 27, 2012.
Since November 2013 she has resided at Shalom Park Nursing facility. Her caregivers have enjoyed her sense of humor and ability to sing and quote scripture even with time she remembered less and less.

In lieu of flowers, Rubena’s family suggests donations be made in her honor to Middle East Ministries, http://middleeastministries.org .
