Russell David Berget, 76, of Parker, CO passed away at the Life Care Center of Stonegate, Parker, CO, on February 26, 2025.

Russ was born on December 8, 1948, to Clarissa (Fylling) and Ronald Berget in Bismarck, ND.

He graduated from Turtle Lake High School, Turtle Lake, ND and went on to get his BS Degree from North Dakota State University in Fargo, ND.

He joined the Army and after basic training at Fort Polk, LA, was sent to Vietnam. As a Squad Leader, he was walking point when he stepped on a land mine. He lost his right leg below the knee, had a compound fracture of the left femur and two toes amputated on his left foot. He spent eight weeks at an Air Force hospital in Okinawa before being flown to Fitzsimons Army Hospital in Aurora, CO, where he spent the next year recovering from his injuries. He received a Bronze Star, Purple Heart and a (Vietnam) Commendation Award.

While at Fitzsimons, he met Sharon Anderson, a Red Cross volunteer who was originally from Rockwell City, Iowa. They were married on October 15, 1972 and have two sons -- Troy (Heather), Parker, CO, and Jeff (Cari), Denver, CO. They are proud grandparents of their five grandchildren -- Shawn, Kaylyn, Erik, Clara and Henry.

Services will be held on March 11, 2025. Russ will be buried at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver, CO, with a private service on March 12, 2025.
