Russell Otto Clapp, 88, died at home on Sunday September 16, 2018.
Russell was born on August 6, 1930 in Salt Creek, Wyoming, to Otto and Esta Clapp who homesteaded in Sussex, Wyoming in 1917. Russell graduated from Natrona County High School in Casper. He married Martinelle Eggert in 1952 and they moved to Denver in 1959.
He served his apprenticeship in printing at Prairie Publishing in Casper. In Denver, he worked at Peerless Printing, at A.B. Hirschfield Press, and retired from the Denver Post after more than 20 years in 1993. Russ was an active member of Denver Typographical Union #49 for 60 years. He was a 50-year member of Pathfinder Lodge #42 A.F. & A.M. and a Broncos season ticket holder since 1970. He served in the Wyoming National Guard for 10 years. Russ enjoyed gardening, especially growing tomatoes, fishing the Middle Fork of the Powder River in the Bighorns, hunting, and golf.
Russell was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters William Clapp, Donald Clapp, Byron Clapp, Bernice Cuilla, Edna Garrett, Elaine Hoshaw, and Wyoma Whitehead. He is survived by Marty, his wife of 66 years, his daughters Cathy Storey of Denver and Leslie Page of Washington, D.C., his sons-in-law Joe and Ben, and his grandchildren David, Rachel, Gillian, and Benjamin, and by his brother Leo Clapp of Casper.
Services will be held at 2:00 Saturday, Sept. 22 at Horan & McConaty, 11150 E. Dartmouth Ave., Aurora.
