Sally Zanon

August 31, 1948 — December 19, 2021

Arvada, Colorado

Sally Kay (McGuire) Zanon, of Arvada, Colorado passed away on Sunday, December 19, 2021 after a courageous 11 1/2 year battle with breast cancer. She was 73. She passed peacefully at home surrounded by her family.

Sally was born in Portage, Wisconsin on August 31, 1948 to James and Alice McGuire. She was the second oldest of a growing family that eventually totaled seven children. While she was still very young, her family moved west, settling in Prineville, Oregon. She spent her youth and school years in Prineville where her family was active in the Lutheran Church and the associated youth activities. After graduating from high school in 1966, she moved to Bend, Oregon, where she lived with her sister and attended beauty college. In the spring of 1967 (and Sally would know the exact date!) she met a young man, Randy Zanon, who would become the love of her life. Randy had committed to serve a four year hitch in the U.S. Navy, and he left for his service obligation in the fall of 1967. Over the next two years, Sally wrote to him almost daily. Randy got home from Vietnam in June 1969, and Sally and Randy got married on July 5, 1969. When Randy got out of the Navy in August 1971, they moved back to Bend, Oregon, then eventually on to Corvallis, Oregon where Sally worked in banking to help put her husband through college. After college Sally moved with her husband, first to Missoula, Montana, then eventually back to Oregon, first in Medford, Oregon, and then making a home in Philomath, Oregon. Sally and Randy raised three children, and Sally absolutely delighted and excelled at being a Mom. She doted on and fussed over her children continuously, and she loved her kids fiercely and unconditionally. She was, simply put, the best MOM ever. After her kids finished high school and left for college in Colorado, Sally and Randy eventually pulled up stakes and moved to Colorado in 2004 to be closer to her kids. These last 17 years in Colorado, being close to her kids and grandchildren, were the best years of her life.

Sally was preceded in death by her mom and dad, Alice and James McGuire; by her step-mother and step-father, Ruby and Lawrence Mitchell; and by a sister, Susieanne Cook.

Sally is survived by her husband, Randy Zanon of Arvada, CO; her son, Jared Zanon (Shannon) of Arvada, CO; her daughter, Julie Parmenter of Erie, CO; her son, Jimmy Zanon (Kim) of Arvada, CO; and seven beautiful and loving grandchildren: Bryce and Blake Zanon, Juliette, Waylon, and Cora Blue Parmenter, and Ellie and Henry Zanon. Sally is also survived by her sister, Nancy Smith of Aumsville, OR; her brother, Steve McGuire (Joyce) of Prineville, OR; her sister, Peggy Chambers of Prineville, OR; her sister, Debbie Hargis (Larry) of Prineville, OR; her brother, Jim McGuire (Gayle) of Prineville, OR; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service will be held at the Horan & McConaty Family Chapel in Arvada, Colorado on Thursday, January 6, 2022 at 10:00AM. Sally will be laid to rest at Fort Logan National Cemetery, also on Thursday, January 6, 2022 at 1:15PM.
