Salvatore Daniel Vaccaro

March 2, 1919 — June 1, 2008

Salvatore passed away peacefully with family members at his side in the Denver, on Sunday morning June 1, 2008. He was the son of the late Canio Vaccaro and Maria Summa Vaccaro of Port Chester, New York. Husband to his beloved late wife Pauline DeIacova Vaccaro and was preceded in death by his brothers/sisters: Mae Varbero, Anthony Vaccaro and William Vaccaro. He is survived by his brother John Vaccaro(Rye of Brook, New York) sisters Carrie Catalano and Trudy Latella, both of Port Chester, New York. He was the beloved father to John T. Vaccaro (Stamford, CT), Paula M. Frerich-(Denver, Co), Canio Vaccaro (St. Louis Mo), and Maria Sardos (LI, NY.) A grandfather to Vincent Frerich (Denver, CO), Michelle Vaccaro and Lisa Vaccaro of Stamford, CT and Nikolos Sardon (LI, NY.) A great grandfather to David Vaccaro (Stamford, CT), Andrew, Brendan, and Lucas Frerich all of Denver, Colorado. Sal graduated Port Chester High School in 1937, served in the US Army from 1943-1945 as a Staff Sergeant in World War II as part of the Greatest Generation. He saw combat action in the European Theater and was in the 10th Armored Division which fought side by side with the 101st Air Bourne Division in the Battle of The Bulge in the Ardennes and Bastogne and is a recipient of the Bronze Star Medal. He started his working career as a design lay out draftsman and worked for The Thermix Corporation, Aerotech Corp. and retired in 1987 from the Selectro Corporation in Mamaroneck, NY. At that time he moved from Port Chest, NY to Denver, Colorado where he spent his remaining years in retirement. He was active in the Holy Rosary Parish Church and Don Bosco Center in Prot Chest for many years. He was also a member of the Woodmen of the World Lodge Organization. Always the family man. His hobbies included his love to paint pictures in oil, carpentry work, gardening and fishing. He was a proud WWII Veteran and supported their cause when ever possible and proudly displayed his military units insignias. He will be laid to rest with wife Pauline in early July with full Military Honors at Fort Logan Military National Cemetery, Denver, CO.
