Samuel R Carson, Jr., 87 passed away on Saturday, June 14, 2014 after a long illness. Sam was born September 22, 1926 in Akron Ohio to the late Samuel R Sr. and Ora Mae Carson. He was a resident of Akron for 43 years then in 1970 moved his family to Denver, where he was a resident for 44 years. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the Navy. Coming from a musical family, Sam was an accomplished musician, who played tenor saxophone. He opened up for many acts such as Vic Damone, Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Armstrong and many others. But he also loved doing benefits for the church with his band. He was a truck driver for P.I.E until retirement. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters, Ora Nita Foshee, Mae Hodges, Sylvia Griffin, his brothers, Jimmy Carson, William Carson, Phillip Carson, Daniel Carson. He leaves to mourn his passing, his beloved wife of 65 years Janet Carson; his seven children, Dawn (Charles) Naville, Darwyn Carson, Samuel R. (Shelley) Carson, III, Eric Carson, Mark Carson, Robyn (Regis) Donovan, Martin Carson; grandchildren, Nicole Naylor, Matthew Roberts, Desmond Donovan, Blaine Donovan, Stevan Carson, Shelby Carson; great grandchildren, Mariana Naylor, Luke Naylor, Anayla Roberts, Marley Roberts. Sisters: Gloria (Barney) Razor, Emma (Donny) Whitworth, brother, Duane Carson, and a host of relatives and friends. A Funeral Mass with a reception to follow will be held Saturday, June 21, 11:00 AM, at Christ the King Catholic Church, 830 Elm Street, Denver 80220.
