Sandra “Sandy” Kay Davis was a loving and sweet mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She left this world surrounded by her children and all of their love on April 24, 2022, following complications from heart surgery she bravely pursued in the hopes of spending more time with the family she loved so much. She was 73 years old.
Sandy was born to George Millard Pickrel and Doris Marie (Reimer) Pickrel on August 31, 1948. She enjoyed a happy and enriched childhood with her three sisters DeAnn Kropp (D), Darla Knapp (D), and Sherry Grossnick (Pickrel).
She graduated from Lakewood High School in 1966 and married Thurman Davis in 1968. As an Air Force wife, Sandy had the opportunity to travel all over the world. Her travels took her from coast to coast in the US, Hawaii, and Europe. She lived in Washington, Virginia, California, England, and Germany but her heart always called Colorado home.
Born with a heart defect, Sandy received her first open heart surgery in 1975. Despite the surgery being in its infancy, she not only recovered but thrived with her repaired heart for 46 years.
After her divorce In 1982, Sandy returned home to Colorado where she became a Certified Medical Records Clerk, retiring in that field in 1999.
Beginning in the early 2000's Sandy began to progressively lose her sight to Macular Degeneration. Determined to remain independent, she learned to live on her own despite how
this loss affected her in every way.
In 2012, Sandy was diagnosed with Stage 4 Cancer. Always fighting to spend more precious time with her loved ones she surprised everyone when, after one round of chemotherapy and radiation, she went into full remission. Her will to live was strong.
Sandy had a strong faith that she used to guide her in how she treated everyone she encountered. She demonstrated her love of people with every interaction she had. She was kind and generous and had more love than her heart could hold. Sandy loved her family deeply and cared for her grandchildren even with the challenge of being blind.
Anyone who met Sandy knew that she was quite the storyteller and given the chance, could enthrall anyone who listened. Wanting no more than people’s time, Sandy’s needs were simple. She did not require expensive gifts, only the extravagance of spending quality time with the people she loved.
Sandy was preceded in death by her mother and father Doris and George Pickrel, and sisters DeAnn Kropp and Darla Knapp.
She is survived by her sister Sherry Grossnick, son Joel Davis (Tiffany), daughters Tanya Disner (Jim) and Amanda Caro (Scott), and grandchildren Julian Disner, Ethan Siedler, Kayla Siedler, Erin Davis and Alison Caro.
