Sandra Jo (Nutt) Hannan, age 62, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 21, 2021.

Sandra, Sandy to her friends, was born to Joseph Eugene Nutt and Elizabeth Eleanor (Heflin) Nutt in Columbus, Ohio May, 20 1959. A smirker and a smiler, Sandy spent her formative years moving around the country, living on Air Force bases with her family, eventually settling in Tucson, Arizona where she graduated from Salpointe Catholic High School in 1977. Sandy met and married David Hannan and had two children, Brendan and Caitie, before moving to Denver, Colorado. Sandy’s third child, Kelly, was born in 1990 with severe physical disabilities.

Sandy could light up a room. A loving and attentive mother to her three children and the full-time caretaker for her youngest, Kelly. Sandy took in any and all with open arms and turned every stranger into a friend. Sandy laughed frequently, danced often, directed neighborhood plays, planned elaborate Halloween parties, and was a second mother to her children’s friends. She often laughed in the face of adversity and served as a beacon of hope when hope seemed out of reach.

After Kelly Hannan passed away in 2004, Sandy turned her passion for caretaking into a second career, graduating from nursing school in 2009. Sandy worked in a variety of nursing positions, always treating patients with the utmost care and respect. Sandy’s coworkers described her as a “ray of sunshine” and said that she made every day at work more fun.

Sandy was a talented artist and appreciator of all types of culture. She created multiple large-scale stained glass pieces and for the few years preceding her death was making stained glass nightlights for friends. She loved music and comedy. She would go to local comedy shows and lend her laughter in order to support her daughter, Caitie. She became a soccer fan to cheer on her son, Brendan, who works in sports.

Sandy is survived by her children, Brendan and Caitie, as well as her siblings, Nancy Weimer, Mary Lucas, and Joe Nutt, as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Betty, her sisters, Debbie and Michelle, and her daughter, Kelly.
