Scott Charles Leonard

Scott Charles Leonard

Beloved Son, Brother, Uncle and Friend to many

“Scottie” was born in Denver, the middle child of nine, to Chuck (Charles) and Punkin (Carol) Leonard. They lived in Arvada, CO until the family moved to the Park Hill neighborhood of Denver in 1972. He attended St. James Elementary and Machebeuf and Manual High Schools.

He became a master locksmith, working for Shield Security, Interstate Hardware, and Rio Grande Co. He was the in-house locksmith/service rep at Rio since 2003. He earned numerous awards (some displayed today), including Employee of the Year at Interstate in 1994 and 20 years Accident-Free at Rio. He was a responsible and valued employee who had to be forced to take time off for himself.

Scottie’s favorite times were with family and friends at the Deckers, CO cabin built by Chuck and his brothers in 1956. For years he owned a motor home and boat which took him on many adventures (most notably Pueblo Reservoir and Lake McConaughy). Several times he took his nieces and nephews with him, and they remember riding “Big Bertha” (inner tube) behind the boat, fishing, and enjoying campfires together.

He loved Major League Baseball (Boston Red Sox and Colorado Rockies-not so much the last 5 years). He would place bags of peanuts on coworkers’ desks at the start of baseball season each Spring.

He loved music from the 1970’s and 80’s including Bob Seger, Jefferson Starship, Bob Dylan, William Topley (Boulder concert with Becky) and Van Halen (Boulder concert with Steve and Mark). Fun times were remembered listening to his favorites with a beer in hand.

Chuck and Punkin divorced in 1980, and Chuck married Laura Furrow in 1981, adding stepsister Jenn to the family. We love these two beautiful additions! Scottie was briefly married to Penny Roy, but most of his adult life was spent as a bachelor.

But Scottie was never alone because of his love for his beloved dogs, including Kooster, Keesha and Kodiak, Dakota, Ruger and recently Talon (the last two - purebred German Shepherds). Talon now resides with Scott’s brother Mark in Deckers, CO. After the latest hospital stay, Diane joked that Scottie was Talon’s “emotional support human”.

Scottie was very proud to have a perfect 850 credit score and own his Aurora home mortgage-free. He was always willing to help family and friends with re-keying homes and making service calls. He was selfless and generous and kind to everyone he met.

Memorable trips with Scottie were a cross-country trip in his camper with Becky to Oregon, camping and boating with the McGriff’s and Owston’s at Pueblo Reservoir, and camping at The Great Sand Dunes with the McGriff, Culpepper and Jeff Leonard families. He also traveled to Las Vegas many times with family.

Scottie’s last trip was fishing for walleye in Minnesota with several good buddies in August. He raved about the awesome time he had while Talon played in Kearney, NE.

Scott is survived by siblings Steve, Carrie, Mark, Diane, Jeff, Becky, Jenn, Greg, Kelly, and stepmother Laura.
