Shawn L. Bachman

August 12, 1967 — January 31, 2012

Shawn was born in Longmont, Colorado, the 4th child of Larry & Leona (Noni) Bachman. Shawn grew up with 2 older brothers and an older sister to keep an eye on him. Many camping and fishing trips from the time he could walk started him on a lifelong passion for fishing, camping, and hunting in the Colorado mountains. As a teenager and into his twenties, he would drive and hike for hours for a couple hours of fishing, and if it required some 4 wheeling in his pride and joy Jeep, so much the better. The family moved to Littleton in 1973 where Shawn graduated from Columbine High School in 1985 and was finally free of the inquiries about his 3 preceding siblings. He graduated from the police academy at Arapahoe Community College and hoped to find a job in the law enforcement business in the Denver area. He found jobs were scarce in law enforcement in the Denver area, so he went into the photo processing business when 1 hour photo processing of your film was a big business. In that business, Shawn met some genuinely nice people that would become life long friends. A few years later, Shawn went to work for a company, now UQM, that built electric motors, some of them at the leading edge of design. He was always proud to show pictures or stories of vehicles under test for the Army or other companies that used motors he had built. He currently had over 20 years experience at UQM. Shawn was very affected by the passing of his older brother Chris, from cancer in 1992, as the two boys were close in age and had spent much time fishing and shooting together and with their dad. It was many months before his characteristic smile was seen regularly. Shawn loved to decorate peoples houses when they weren't looking. His sister's apartment during her honeymoon, his oldest brother's house while he was on his honeymoon, his oldest brother's house when he turned 40, and probably his best accomplishment, a best friend's house with items from his wedding, 10 years after the wedding! Decoration meant balloons all over, firework poppers tied to the cabinets, removal of labels on canned goods, etc. Evidence often lasted until the victims moved from the residence. Shawn loved his three nieces and would do almost anything to entertain them. He came to fatherhood himself later and his two boys meant the world to him. He delighted in taking them fishing and would spend every minute working with them, even if it meant he did not do any fishing himself. Shawn adopted two rescue dogs, a Weimaraner and a white lab and he loved them and they absolutely adored him. For some time, the lab would only go to Shawn, even food could not get him near other people for months. Shawn will be greatly missed by his family and friends every day. We can only hope he knew how much we all thought of him and how all our lives are diminished by his passing.
