Shawn Patrick Hartley, 44, of Aurora, Colorado, passed away April 13, 2016. Shawn was born September 23, 1971 in Covina, California to Samuel L. Hartley and Sandra Hawkins Hartley. Shawn graduated from St. Mary's High School in Phoenix, Arizona. He attended Arizona State University. Later, he moved to Texas, where he married Susan Elizabeth Mumford. They started their family and Shawn used his construction and creative skills to build the family home. In that home, he delighted in raising and caring for animals including the family dogs, pigs, goats, chickens and ducks. He graduated from Texas State University and began a career with Hewlett Packard Enterprise. He worked with many people around the country and the world. He would tell stories about the joy he experienced getting to know, and sharing laughs with so many great friends. Shawn had many interests throughout his life including power lifting. He competed at the state, national and worldwide level, enjoying the camaraderie of fellow athletes and the thrill of accomplishing goals. After moving to Colorado in 2010, Shawn enjoyed the mountains, snow, hiking and camping with his family. He enjoyed serving the members of the Southlands Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, into which he was baptized in 2014. His faith and testimony and love for his Savior grew, as did his love for the many friends that he made in Aurora. Shawn always had a smile to share; whether it was trying to have the best Halloween trunk display at Trunk-or-Treat, Barbecuing for large groups or shoveling snow for neighbors. He enjoyed making others laugh with his wit and joking. Shawn is survived by his loving wife, Susan Mumford Hartley; daughters, Brianna Rayne and Shaylin Rebecca Hartley; step-daughter, Tabetha Jayne Mumford (Kristopher Dowd); granddaughter, Molly Jayne Dowd; Mother, Sandra Hartley; Father, Samuel Hartley; Brothers, and their spouses, Kevin Hartley, Christopher and Amy Hartley, Sam and Abby Hartley; Sister and spouse, Mia and Phillip Phillips and many nephews and nieces, in-laws, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Shawn cherished his family. Together with Susan, he loved cooking, eating, parenting, laughing, traveling, four wheeling and watching sports. Tabetha, Brianna and Shaylin were fortunate to have a loving father in their lives. They had a father who was not afraid to fix hair, play with pink Legos, build sand castles for them to destroy, and hold their hands when they needed. He always made them laugh and supported them through all their desires and dreams. When Molly was born, Shawn became known as Shawnpa to her and a few other young family friends. They will always hold him, and all they learned from him, in their hearts. A Funeral service for Shawn will be held at 11:00 am, on Wednesday, April 20, 2016, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 7405 South Addison Court, Aurora. A viewing will be held at the Church from 9:30-10:30am. Following the burial at St. Simeon Cemetery, family and friends are invited to return to the Church for a time to celebrate Shawn's life as we share memories, socialize and enjoy a potluck lunch, as Shawn would have enjoyed everyone's favorite dishes.
