Sheila Lee McCormick

April 3, 1933 — November 2, 2017

Sheila Lee McCormick (Clarke) of Golden, CO passed away peacefully in her sleep at home on 11/02/2017.She is survived by her son, Michael McCormick of Las Vegas, NV, her daughter, Erin McCormick of Golden, and her grandson Daniel McCormick of Tucson, AZ. Her husband Wayne passed away on 08/31/1983. Sheila was born in Rapid City, SD on 04/03/1933 to Harry and Oma Clarke and was the oldest of four children. She leaves behind her sister Leah Pellerin of Mesa, AZ, her brother Michael Clarke of Rapid City, SD, and her sister Diane Lux of Kansas City, MO, and many nieces and nephews. Sheila graduated from Rapid City Central High School in 1952. She met her future husband, Wayne McCormick, while working as a switchboard operator at Ellsworth AFB. Sheila and Wayne married on 06/19/1955 in Rapid City. They moved to Tacoma, WA when Wayne worked at Ball Aerospace. In 1961 they moved to Arvada, Colorado with their young children. Sheila pursued a variety of home ventures including tying fishing flies for local sporting goods stores and painting home interiors with a friend. At age 43 she attended college and earned her bachelor’s degree in 1979 from Metro State College. Her last career was as a realtor at Re/Max West and later as a Metro Broker. Sheila is buried with her husband at Ft Logan Nat’l Cemetery. She will be remembered for her intelligence and sharp wit, pride in her children and grandchild, and fondness for her beloved dog, Charlie. A celebration of Sheila’s life with friends and family will be held next spring. The date to be announced. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Sheila McCormick’s name may be made to support Lutheran Hospice.
