Sheldon Howard Carr

May 22, 1940 — January 8, 2018

Sheldon Howard Carr, born May 22, 1940 in Casper, Wyoming passed away in peace on January 8, 2018, surrounded by his loving family. Sheldon graduated from North High School in 1958. He attended Colorado State University and later put himself through Dental School at Northwestern University in Chicago where he made lifelong friendships. It was at Northwestern that he met Mary, a dental hygienist, and they later married in 1965. As a Captain in the US Army Dental Corps, he received a National Defense Service Medal. He built a successful dental practice in Cherry Creek for 37 years and was a proud member of the American Dental Association, the Colorado Dental Association and the Metropolitan Denver Dental Society. Sheldon served as a Clinical Assistant Professor, Department of Restorative Dentistry, at the University of Colorado Dental School. He was awarded Fellowship in the American College of Dentists. Sheldon was expertly trained, thorough, and compassionate. He consistently learned and utilized the latest techniques, which created an atmosphere of trust and professionalism. He had a genuine compassion for the well-being for each and every one of his patients. Sheldon Carr lived a life of total service--service to his family, profession and patients. He was always there for his family, providing sound advice and encouragement. He was truly a role model for all those he touched. His life was an inspiration, and we take with us his love of the outdoors where he found joy in God’s creation. We take with us the joy he found in having fun at play'fly fishing, running, hunting, backpacking, biking and golfing. Sheldon had a passion for health and nutrition. Finally and most importantly, we take with us his immense love of family which made his life complete and happy'his greatest accomplishment and biggest joy! Shelly is preceded in death by his father and mother Hyman and Kitty Carr and sister Bernice Hartog. He is survived by his loving wife Mary of 52 years; beloved children Sharon Pszanka, Leslie (Scott) Winston, Darin (Becky) Carr and Aimee Dotson; Grandchildren Madison and Melana Pszanka, Matthew, Marley, Andy and Jesse Winston, Amanda (Tony) Carr, Avery, Austin, and Alexandra, Blake and Brady Dotson; and devoted brother Larry (Angel) Carr. Shelly’s faith and trust in God made his incredibly rich life all possible. His example and love will always shine brightly in our hearts! Please join us in celebration of his life at 11:00 AM on Friday, January 12, 2018 at Horan & McConaty, 5303 East County Line Road, Centennial 80122. A Reception will immediately follow the service in the Horan & McConaty Reception Center.
