Sherman Jay Batchelor

January 19, 1931 — July 4, 2013

Sherman Jay Batchelor, 82, passed away July 4, 2013, in Arvada, Colorado. He was born January 19, 1931 in Omaha, Nebraska to Eli Vanille and Hazel Regina Johnson Batchelor. Sherman served 20 years in the United States Air Force from 1948 to 1968… spending time in The Philippines, Guam, Okinawa, Greenland, Germany and Quad; and Stateside in Miami-Florida, Greensville-South Carolina, Albuquerque–New Mexico and Mountain Home–Idaho. He retired as a Master Sergeant. He married Shirley Lucille Young as a young woman of 14 years old. Sherman was a mature 20. The two began to build their family and traveling the world as a military family. Sherman is survived by his beloved wife, Shirley; his children, daughter's; Beverly Schevling (Richard), and Cheryllynn Heath (James); and his son, Dennis Batchelor; 5 grandchildren, Debra Herrera, Joseph Mills (Brynn), Jason, Nick and Rhonda Batchelor; 4 great-grandchildren: Thomas, Robert, Christopher Wade and Michael Mills; his brother, Donald Batchelor (Teane) and many niece's and nephew's. Sherman is preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara Jean (2/1/1956-1/17/1965) and his two sisters, Dora Jean (9/15/1925 – 2/29/1996) and Geraldine (3/30/1927 – 11/21/2002) Sherman was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was sealed to his wife and children in 1966 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. His church services included High Priest Group Leader, Sunday School President, Executive Secretary, Faithful Home Teacher, Santa at the Church Christmas parties… and he was a man of God. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, July 9th, 5:00-7:00pm, at the Horan & McConaty Family Chapel, 7577 W. 80th Ave., Arvada. A Service for Sherman will be held on Wednesday, July 10th, at 10:00am, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 7080 Independence Street, in Arvada, with a viewing from 9:00am-9:45am. Burial will be at Fort Logan National Cemetery, at 12:30pm, Area ""B"", with full Military Honors.
