Shirley Burt passed away peacefully on Wednesday August 30, 2017 in Westminster, Colorado after a long battle with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. She was born on June 29, 1936 to Helen McKinster in a small apartment on Curtis Street in downtown Denver. She was raised by her mother Helen. Shirley attended Adams City High School where she met her true love George Burt. The two were married in a small service on December 3, 1954. They raised their two children, Michael and Steven, in Commerce City and Thornton. Shirley spent most of her career working for Kois Brothers as a bookkeeper until she retired in 1998. She and George were married for over 62 years. Shirley loved dancing, country music, reading and games. She was a loyal and avid Broncos fan. Shirley and George enjoyed traveling and sight-seeing. Favorite trips included Hawaii and a cruise along the Mexican Riviera. They frequently traveled to Las Vegas where she enjoyed slot machines, concerts and great food. The two were frequent campers and enjoyed the outdoors. Shirley enjoyed donating to many charities. Shirley was survived by her husband George Burt, her sons Michael and Steve Burt, her four grandchildren Aaron, Andrew, Erik and Jenna Burt, her two great grandchildren Maggie and Lilly and her siblings William Mondragon, Clifford McKinster, and Vivian Joyce Cronkey. Her family will always remember her kindness, love, and positive attitude. A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, September 6, 2017 at 10:30am at the Horan & McConaty Family Chapel at 9998 Grant St., Thornton, CO 80229.
