Shirley Ann Delleney

Shirley Ann Delleney of Aurora, Colorado, passed away October 1, 2013, in Denver just two days shy of her 76th birthday. She was born October 3, 1937 in Tulsa, Oklahoma to her parents Lucas and Ester McConnell Pratt. Shirley grew up in Tulsa Oklahoma. She attended Will Rogers High School in Tulsa. Shirley attended Oklahoma Baptist University in Shawnee, Oklahoma. Shirley's major was Fashion Design; which became a life long career and passion of hers. She assisted in costume production for the Denver Ballet, designed custom home décor for many clients, and enjoyed being involved in productions of many kinds; including those for her church families. Shirley was the primary source of family support for the wives and families of the SeaBees, while Richard was enlisted in the U.S. Navy as a Chaplin stationed in Vietnam. She was a comfort to those families with loved ones stationed overseas. Shirley taught religious education to children, teenagers, and adults of all ages at all the churches she and husband Richard were a part of. Shirley was active for many years in the Rocky Mountain Region of American Baptist Churches. Shirley, (or Shir as Richard fondly referred to her) was devoted to her husband and children, friends, and extended family. She never knew a stranger. She was a gifted writer, seamstress, and creator of beautiful things. Shirley's belief in God and her daily commitment to his word; she walked the walk and talked the talk to any and all who would listen. We know where she is now, without a doubt. Shirley was a devoted Democrat and a promoter of Peace, Justice, and Hope. She always looked for the positive in every situation and person she met. Shirley is survived by her beloved husband of 57 years, Dr. Richard Doyle Delleney; their four children, Donna, Patricia, Thomas and Catherine Delleney; her grandchildren, Heather, Tyler, Jesse Logan, Jessica, Stephanie, Nikki, Jacob; and great-grandson, Lucas. A Celebration Service will be held for Shirley on Monday October 7, 2013, 1:00pm, at the First BaptistChurch of Denver ~ 1373 Grant Street, Denver, CO. 80203.
