Shirley Detweiler

March 24, 1934 — April 13, 2013

Shirley J. Detweiler, 79, passed from this world on April 13, 2013 in Centennial, Colorado, from complications of Parkinson's disease. Shirley was born to the late George and Hazel Betts on March 24th 1934 in Virden, Illinois where she spent part of her childhood. Her family moved to Colorado during World War II so her father could work in a war factory, where she graduated from Englewood High School. She married Eugene Berg on June 17, 1959 and in the course of her marriage to Gene they lived in Washington (where Tim her son was born), Colorado (where Cindi her daughter was born), Illinois, Ohio, New Jersey, returning to Lakewood Colorado in 1972. Gene died accidently in 1978. She married Kenneth N Detweiler on Febrary 24, 1979 and they resided in Lakewood, Colorado. She and Ken were happily married until he died from Alzheimer's in 2004. Shirley's first job was working at Woolworths with her mother Hazel. She spent most of her working life with the US government: DOD Air Force and Army as a clerk, and the USGS Department of Interior as an administrative assistant, she retired in 1994. She was an extrovert and loved to socialize with family and friends. She held many dinner parties, bridge club nights, and family holiday dinners. She loved to travel, dance, play cards, ski, do crafts, host family functions and attend church. Her faith was a source of comfort throughout her life. Shirley was preceded in death by parents George and Hazel Betts; and her husbands' Eugene Berg and Ken Detweiler. She is survived by her sister Joyce Heflin; her two children, Tim Berg and Cindi Frank; four step children: Ken Detweiler Jr, Mollie Mouton, Sharon Dodrill, and Karen Johnson; and 8 grandchildren: Tamara Buchanan, Andrew Berg, Christopher Hilton, Isaac, Rachael and Sarah Dodrill, Cameron and Kyra Johnson. A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, April 19, 2013 at 10:00 am, Horan & McConaty 3101 S. Wadsworth Boulevard Lakewood, CO 80227. The family requests in lieu of flowers consider making a donation to Parkinson's Research. The Michael J.
