Shirley June Gartman, 83, of Thornton passed away Saturday, September 10, 2016. She was the wife of the late George M. Gartman who passed on May 19, 2000. Born in Torrington, Wyoming on December 10, 1932, Shirley was one of eight children to Ethel Aileen Sutton and Julius Lewis Barthel. She was raised in Torrington and became a teacher, then later moved to Westminster, CO and became a licensed practical nurse. She worked for over 18 years St. Anthony Central in med surge and taking care of the nuns. Shirley was an avid Denver Broncos fan, her Make a Wish for the Elderly was to meet John Elway, whom she sadly did not get the opportunity to meet. Her other wish was to tour Dove Valley which she enjoyed with her daughter Dee-Dee. Shirley had a wonderfully dry sense of humor, her family and friends never knew just what she would say. Her greatest joy was her family and she was fiercely protective of them. She was quite small and quiet but she was feisty and incredibly witty. She will be remembered as a devoted wife, loving mother, and doting grandmother. Shirley leaves behind three children, Marvin L. Gartman (Linda), Suzanne J. Busboom (Todd), Deanna L. Gonzales (Jeff); six grandchildren, Steven Matthew Gartman (Maggi), Maureen Leah Gartman, Nicholas Allen Gartman (Kara), Samuel Lee Gartman (Nicholla), Amber June Medina, Brittany Rose Busboom (Ryan Benegas); thirteen grandchildren, Justin, Ashley, Paris, Steven, Michael, McKenna, Isabella, Marcus, Gavin, Aidan, Khloe, Darci, Madelynn; two siblings, Bonnie Carnel, Edward Barthel; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, she is preceded in death by a grandson, Timothy George Gartman; and siblings; Caroline ""Bernice"" Scott, Charles Barthel, James Barthel, Richard Barthel, Robert Barthel. Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Funeral Service, 11:00am, Thursday, September 15, at the Horan & McConaty Chapel, 9998 Grant Street, Thornton, followed by a burial at 1:30pm at Fort Logan National Cemetery, Denver.
